I pulled this pipe off, though i didn't really like turning the hard pipe in the steering rack, or is that ok to turn?

I found the flush procedure in the FSM to be the most effective method, you may want to consider it. If interested I can probably dig that up and make it available. You will also want to have the following items available: 1) 4-5 quarts Castrol Mercon V 2) a 1 gallon milk jug (maybe two) 3) turkey baster 4) about 18" of hose the same ID as the return hose on the PS fluid reservoir and a piece of metal tube ~ the same ID as both of these hoses 5) a short piece (3") of this same hose and a bolt to use as a plug in the hose. This part will be used to plug the PS tank during the flush.

***A helper would be nice as this goes fast. If you get air in the system as I did a couple times, walk away for 20-30 minutes, then continue with the flush. Don't try to solve the air problem immediately, you will be fighting a losing battle and probably make the entire process harder and take longer than it has to.

I already did the flush when i got this and had to replace the reservoir, but i would call it more a drain than a flush.

I would love the FSM version, so yes please, if you have that, it would be great to have posted here.

Well, i had to drain the system when i replaced the pump, i'm not especially happy with the results or how it went, i had so much air in the system, i had to buy a vacuum pump to stop the steering 'bouncing' - that was after running all other bleed techniques.

Short version, i will be doing this again when the weather warms up, just to have a fresh clean system, same with the transmission. This is why i'm asking, as whilst i did that last time, i was unsure it was the best place to do it from.

Sidenote....tranny is simple, access is at the aux cooler, and it can be done with one guy. Before you do the flush you will surely drop the pan and change the filter + evaluate what's in the pan before committing to the flush. Before doing this, things go much better if you use the tranny pump to drain the tranny.......first.
