With a focus on electric vehicles being here and now regardless of the direction politics takes our country, I believe it is only a matter of time before there are more choices for energy storage. Good thing it will never be an "on line" thing, the only way to store energy with earth technology is physical containers. LIB's have come a LONG way since the first really bad laptop batteries.
Lol not true, we have had electric vehicles without batteries for over 100 years and they are still making them today -

We have reduced that concept in the states to an amusement park ride called "bumper cars" same concept just a lot more fun.

the first electric elevator was shown off in 1880 by Seimens
Steam driven hydraulic lifts were used before that
The first electric passenger train was in 1879 by Seimens also

When was that "power wagon" steam powered generator wagon built?

Brand new Mercedes V167s and X167s (aka GLE and GLS SUVS) have a 48V Lithium ion battery for main power electronics. Yes this is on gas engine vehicles. I think those variants still have lead acid 12V batteries as well.

That system is there for the high current draw systems: electrically assisted power steering, starting, and electrohydraulic swap bars.

No starter motors or alternators. The torque converter area has been converted to a motor/alternator.

And to add to the no major change to internal combustion engines. Did anyone mention the Wankel engine? Super simplistic, high reving, light weight, horrible on emissions, horrible on durability. At least someone tried. RX7s were cool cars though.

My dad bought a 1988 Rx7 Turbo II new
That car was super fast, dual wankle rotors = 6 combustion chambers and a turbo made 179 HP and 182 fl lbs of torque rev to 6500, car weighed 2700#
With some waste gate and turbo mods that car was really really fast for what it was.
I loved learning about the wankle rotary, I always thought that was a great design, works really well in prop driven airplanes

Interesting stuff about mercedes! There is some great tech making its way into our newest automobiles.
I am a big fan of the cvt transmissions, just like all our snowmobiles and atv's (except honda) they all use the old cvt keeps the engine in the power band with no gears!!

If you love rotaries then check out Rob Dahm on YouTube.....he's about to put a 4 rotor turbo in a wrecked 2020 c8 corvette. He's also got an AWD 4 rotor turbo Rx7 that puts 1,000hp to all 4 wheels....it's nuts
