Brand new Mercedes V167s and X167s (aka GLE and GLS SUVS) have a 48V Lithium ion battery for main power electronics. Yes this is on gas engine vehicles. I think those variants still have lead acid 12V batteries as well. That system is there for the high current draw systems: electrically assisted power steering, starting, and electrohydraulic swap bars. No starter motors or alternators. The torque converter area has been converted to a motor/alternator. And to add to the no major change to internal combustion engines. Did anyone mention the Wankel engine? Super simplistic, high reving, light weight, horrible on emissions, horrible on durability. At least someone tried. RX7s were cool cars though.
