Wondering what the pros and cons the 5.0 vs the 4.6. So far I've concluded the 5.0 is better for
Low end torque
Easier to work on
More aftermarket support
Easier to make power

And the 4.6 is
Same reliability as the 5.0
Stronger bottom end (able to slap a supercharger on and not have to worry)
Can get higher in the rpms safely

Any and all opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Both engines are great and affordable. I have always picked the 5.0 mainly for cost and the small size. The mod motors (4.6&5.4) are prone to having weak spark plug holes and bad casting around the exhaust ports. Easily fixed but give me a 5.0 any day

Someone had a post where several engines were on stands, out of vehicles, and visible from the front end and when you look at the way the 5.0 heads are mounted and the angle of the Rods in relation to the crank Vs the 4.6L you begin to see that the 4.6L is RIDICULOUSLY larger in width and I think it may even be longer. I'll see if @jamman can recall or @chris perhaps may recall the thread.

EDIT:: Here it is V8 Level II Posting

And my bad, V8 Level II posted it.

I love that pic
Looks alot like a OHV 4.0 sitting next to a SOHC 4.0 doesn't it?

Triton engines are awesome, seriously the 4.6, 5.4 and 6.8 have their drawbacks and trouble area's but there are sooo many of them out there and they are real good engines! The 4.6 can make huge power!!

It just doesn't fit in our Rangers very easily, not if you like air conditioning and not having to do custom frame and steering shaft work

I am a big fan of the 6.8L V10, these engines we regularly see 250-300K from them in the superduties
Not for everybody, but they do have their place

+1 on the 6.8 v-10

At the last place I worked we had 5 F350's with the V-10 and 3 newer F-350 with the 6.2 V-8. They were set up with specialized electronics trailer and a 500 gallon water tank in the bed. They all got about the same fuel mileage but there was a significant difference in the power of the V-10.

We replaced a V-10 F350 when they would come up for a major service or repair above the 225K mark. We would strip out our electronics in the cab and remove the equipment from the bed for a trade in on a replacement or sell it to an employee.

I've heard until 499 HP a windsor block will do just fine. Once you reach 501 the block separates... splits in half.

Kidding aside I take it to a dyno but going through the gears getting on the freeway is fun.
