As the title says im considering a v8 swap on a gen2 mercury mountaineer. After getting the donor for nothing and locating a stupid clean 05 with a bad 4.0 for scrap price has the gears turning. Has anyone done this swap. I found a very vague write up on another form. Not much detail basically just said it can be done. Well no   it can be done. Ford did it no reason why I can't. Just looking for some info on what to expect while doing this.

looking into this it seems very very possible, especially since you have the entire donor truck
The bellhousing is different of course, some hoses and plumbing is different, otherwise the 4.6L drivetrain should literally bolt in.......
Most people will say "sell it and buy a 4.6L truck its easier and cheaper" well thats the same thing I heard back in 1996 when I wanted to rip out my 2.9L and replace with a 4.0.......
Listen it comes down to this, those trucks left the factory with a 4.0 sohc or a 4.6L DOHC v8........... so either engine/trans combo can be bolted in. having the ENTIRE donor is the KEY to saving headaches and money

There may be some issues putting a 02 drivetrain into a 05 vehicle, but having the entire 02 donor there will likely give you any parts needed to make the conversion happen....
$250 total? Heck I have just that in a driveshaft usually! LOL

If it is a budget build, then I guess you wouldn't be interested in this? I pulled the plastic off it today for a picture.

You should see the intake. Engine was rebuilt for a particular class and the rules changed before it could be run. It is fresh.
