This will take sometime to complete but here is the first few words.
Way back when, I wanted to change my grille to something different so I in 2012, I ordered EB Bronco Grille Lettering, with the shiny inserts.   Made a plate for mounting the letters and then mounted it to the OEM Grille.
Picture - EB Lettering for Ranger Grille
I liked it BUT it wasn't exactly what I was thinking I wanted.Fast forward to 2018... !
I decided I wanted some larger letters on the grille.   I looked on line, found all kinds of letters, and decided on 1/2" thick Letters in the size I want to fit my Grille.   Only problem, there was a look I wanted in the characters but couldn't find any fonts on-line that would work.
Enters a a beautiful young woman, who just happen to be a Graphics Designer... AND related to me.  She took the Ranger Font, changed things a little to fit my ideas and her creative license, and ended up with a nice looking "F O R D", at least I think so, and it fit what I was thinking I wanted.  That works... right ?
The attached photo shows the Ranger Font with the letters closed in, makes for a easier mounted character, and I think a better looking letter.
The tube Grille is new too, Black  S/S Square Tube and should  make the RED Letter stand out !

Ordering color RED !  Lettering, painted, in my letter size, will be around $50, + shipping.  Not cheap but less than the waste I will have trying to get the letter to look better.

Thinking of putting some sort of light panels on the rear of each letter, don't want a lot of light, not sure the effect but may not bother.
Will post again when the RED Letters are here.

I would like E4 but the company I am using for the Lettering only has Bright RED !
Should work OK, if it is too dull or off colored I will have to have them repainted.
Dupont makes a Line of Paint that is closer to matching Ford's colors !

I'm not trying to get a Raptor look... just want BIGGA Letters !

OK on the E4 paint but I have to order the letters first and they come painted at no extra charge so I will get them RED and see, can paint them later if needed.

MaDMaXX,
Hoping for the best; got the quote this AM, as I said about $50 for the letters, painted, and FREE Shipping !
So the overall cost just went down but holding at $125 for the grille project.

Anyone know of a source for those glow panels, something I can cut to shape or are made to shape, and I can regulate the light output, don't want something to bright !

Buggman,
What do you have in the LED line, what's your take on this idea, maybe something new ?
Thinking Cobbs Panels, maybe Cree LEDs, no old school type LEDs, might consider a side firing Cree LED Strip around the outside of each letter !?! (I think the Cree LED Side Firing Strips, can be cut short enough to fit, not sure about shape turns light spread) !

Funny, no one called me out on the notches on the lower edge of the grille.
I had to notch the grille shell to allow the front C4x4 bumper to be moved back about two inches. The notching is not completed but hopefully I won't mess it up !

I saw the notches... just assumed it was to allow for off-road lighting or something.

Still looking for LED Conversions for my Slim Lites, may have to go old school and leave the Halogens.

Letters have been ordered after viewing the proofs, didn't think I was going to receive a proof, I like this shop so far.

The have all the standard fonts and variations of fonts but will accept specials if you have the correct files that they can use. My daughter, who did the mods to the Ranger Font and set up my letters, contacted them and get it all together.
The letters in the picture of the grille are just paper but there were made from my daughter's proofs that we pulled together. She sent that off, got a price, and then after paying for them the Shop sent her a proof, in RED.

The letters sent by the Shop are not scaled to size so I am stuck not seeing them on the grille until I get them, when is that... don't know yet, but hoping they will forward a date so I can setup the time I need.

Can't wait... another project done.

Interesting thought, the OEM Bulbs !
The Slim Lites take an H3 Bulb.
I have located a replacement Bulb but the heat sink is too large to fit the housing, and too big to cut out the housing; I think I am screwed !

You are saying that you have LED high output bulbs in your KC Slim Lites ?
HELP... give me the bulb numbers, and where you got them from ?
What is the wattage of the bulbs you are using ?
How do they work ?
Pictures, do you have any of the lights in operation ?

OK, missed it, I was getting excited, I thought you had LEDs that might fit.I got a message back from the On-Line Store that specializes in LED Bulbs and they said that their H3 High Output Bulbs are too big for the Slim Light Housings.  Also, they do not have anything that would fit, even lower wattage LED bulbs.
I will be setting up my Lights as they came from KC, if somewhere someone comes up with a workable Bulb... "Presto Chang-o" !
Thanks for your come back but now I need to get back on track.

Was thinking of putting LEDs behind the Grille Lettering to create a glow at night, not a bright light just low level lighting.
Was thinking of using these:

Use the tip of a drill bit to make counter bore in the Acrylic Letters, this allowing the spread of the light more evenly.(I used these in an acrylic disc for my ashtray lights, I still need to add a resistor to reduce the amount of light but that's another story).
These lights are sweet and sold by Oznium, I think Super Bright LEDs has them also and maybe for less $$$.
Still working on how many, how bright, and how much !Need the letters first,  then determine the mounting setup, THEN the lighting.

To keep a head of the comments... I am contacting the Supplier to ask for a refund or another set; painted the correct way !
All painted surfaces up !   Looks a little like Russian, maybe middle eastern ?!? LLol !

Here is the correct letter direction but not painted...  the "O" works either way so I have one letter that I can use right now.  Thinking I can repaint all letters E4 RED by Dupont... IF I can get a good refund.

I think the letters worked out to be a good size, I tried to visualize what they would look like before ordering.  I cut out paper letters from the printer and put them in place, i.e. first post, got an idea and thought it would work.
From the first picture, even though they are not facing the correct way, they look good to me !
All letters can have two mounting studs along the middle, all letters are the same size and any horizontal lines are aligned; that will make for easier mounting and the Grille has a slot close enough to center to work out !I think also, that these letters will take to LED backlighting, hoping for the best there.
And the mounting studs, they will be either some long 10-32 machine screws with the heads cut off or studs.  The threads will be put in an oversized threaded hole, and epoxied in place.  Larger holes give less thread contact but helps in reducing any chance of cracking and the epoxy should make up for the hole size.
I think I have covered things...  have to wait till weekend is over to get an answer from the Supplier.

OK, so here is the Monday update.
The letter are correct, the paper coating on the letters is protective coating, who would've Thunk ! Duh !

Also, what I assumed to be "clear, RED painted acrylic lettering", is really "RED acrylic lettering". Not that that is a bad thing, but I was hoping to add some LEDs imbedded in the clear acrylic, allowing for a rear lighting effect, more of a glow.

So I am at the solid red plastic letters point, drilled the mounting holes, tapped with standard tap and then with a bottom tap. Epoxied some S/S Set Screws, approximately 1.25" long in the holes. Waiting for the Epoxy to fully cure and then I need to get a strip of aluminum for a backer plate.

The new Grille has four supports running from top to bottom and I am using the center two for alignment and spacing. The letter spacing will be 1.5" in-between the letters, ending with approximately an 18" overall width Grille Emblem and RED all the way through lettering, so no lighting, right now !

I am headed to the Home Depot to see what they have for 2" wide aluminum; need to start the backing plate !

Thanks for reading; I will be back tomorrow with a little more info and a picture or two !
