So how come the fill hole was higher on the replacement cover? Aftermarket or alternate fit?

It's a "SOLID" brand cast cover. When I bought it, I knew that I may need to actually measure the fluid for the diff instead of just pouring it in till its full, and I did that when I installed the cover. But in my pre-trip rush, that rational thinking went out the window for a minute haha

I have seen Jerry cans that mount on the spare tire.

You have far more trail time than I and I'm sure you've seen lots of different set ups and have something cool in mind. But I think this is kinda cool. Might not be big enough to be useful

I have seen Jerry cans that mount on the spare tire.

I'm actually wanting to mount a "fake" jerry can back there. I picked up one that has a door on one end and the top is a hinged lid. The trucks 19.5 gallon fuel tank is plenty for most of my adventures, but the storage space in the cab is pretty limited. The thought process was to mount the "fake" jerry can on the tire gate and store all the recovery gear (shackles, straps, snatch blocks, etc.) in it. That would free up some floor space in the cab.

I spend a lot of time in my garage thinking about my truck. Last night I thought it would be really cool for a regular trail guy to show some of the wench setups. I havent done any serious trails but I've heard all these terms like snatch blocks etc.. and seen all these different pulleys n stuff. I'm also interested in wench safety for when I do get out on trails like how to keep people from being decapitated or cut in half by a wench cable snapping. You're threads are very detailed and you share lots of photos. You could be that guy.

Ooops - wench = young lady of loose morals, winch = pulling device with cable or chain .....
Ahhh. Ya got me. Lol.

I m a bricklayers. We installed lintols to span bricks across the tops of windows. Most of the guys call them lentils. I crack up everytime I hear them tell the customer about the lentil. Lentil is a bean!! Not a beam!

Lol Rangers aren't rock crawlers. Trying to go over a tree trunk (large enough to actually come into contact with the bumper as you said) with that truck wouldn't end well. Especially with the brick wall of a front crossmember staring you in the face. The same can be said for most "banks of a hill" - not gonna happen.

IFS Rangers suck offroad, especially with the types of obstacles you're talking about.

I especially like the shape, how the bottom is slanted. I've seen a lot of steel bumpers but most look like they would stop on an tree trunk or bank of a hill cause they are flat or flush like a regular bumper. Yours looks like it will pop up and let you keep going.

I took a short cut on this one. Haha. This came from affordable Offroad. All I had to do was paint it and mount my winch.

You'd be surprised at what an IFS rig can get into, and out of. Haha. I've been in situations where the approach angle of the old winch/bumper/valance setup became an issue (part of he reason for the upgrade). I've even been in a situation where a bad line pinched a trans cooler line against the rad support (quite the adventure. Lol). Is IFS as capable as a solid axle rig? No, generally not. But don't sleep on them.

Pretty much paint, bolt on, and go. Getting my old bumper off was a PITA (ended up torching two of the bolts), but other than that it was super easy. I had to modify the winch bolt pattern to fit my 6k winch, but I knew going in the bumper was meant for the larger bolt pattern.

The rear tire carrier definitely weighs more, but I'm nose down after installing the front bumper. With the weight of the rear bumper and where I had the coilovers set, I had about an inch of rake with the old setup. I've got slightly more than that now, and the front wheel alignment is off. I'm going to have to adjust the preload on the coilovers and get it aligned. Not that big of a deal though. Coilovers are easy to adjust and I have the 3 years of free alignments from tireman.

Been a little while since I read through your thread. Have you removed the gas tank? I've seen guys relocate a stainless gas tank where the spare was for improved weight bias.

Nope, still running the stock 19.5 gal poly tank (and I don't see me moving away from it haha).

Welp, went and started another project. Finally got tired of knocking dents out of the rocker panels (plus they're getting pretty rusty and are starting to not like all the bending :(), and decided to make a set of rock sliders. I actually came to this conclusion and bought most of the steel last fall, but didn't actually start them until last weekend... haha

I kinda copied the rocky road super sliders (if they weren't so pricey I would've just bought those haha). The main runners and the outriggers are 2"x2"x1/4" wall tube, the frame mounts are 1/4" plate, and the shin biters (for lack of a better term) are 1.5"X 1/8 wall DOM.

Started by cutting the runners to length. I recently picked up a horizontal bandsaw fron Harbor Freight and it has been incredibly useful on this project.

Then I cut the the DOM. Since I don't have a tube bender I just mitered the ends (with my fancy new band saw). Working out the angles was a little rough, but we made it haha

Test fitting (ignore my fancy jack stand)

Not directly slider related, but I also made a cart for the band saw. The one that it came with was pretty flimsy and didn't have casters.

Back to rock slider things. Working out the frame plates and outriggers.

Tacking things together

Added a tab to the bottom of the frame plates to catch the bottom of the frame rail.

Passenger side assembled

More test fitting

My "notching" set up for the brace bars between the main runners and the shin bitter things

Brace bars in and fully welded.

Annnnnnd that's where I'm at. The passenger side is just about done other than a few gussets, drivers side is still just tacked together.
