Drove it home today!!

Runs a little rough at idle

I did notice it was a 3.0 at about 50MPH when accelerating
AC does not come on.

Has the 1 speed fan problem (I have lost track of how many of these I have fixed)

Gets worse fuel mileage than my 4.0

Squeaks like a tank of mice under the hood. Yes I replaced the cam synch. And the idler pulley bearing. I'll do the tensioner pulley too since I have bearings.

Driveable. Well worth what was paid for it especially with the miles.

I did confirm there is a transmission problem. It hits hard in to gears. Shift points seem normal, no transmission related DTC's but it hits hard up and down. Like anything more than a 3.0 and it would break the tires loose in 2nd and 3rd.

I don't "have" to fix it, I'm plotting a 5.0 swap but I would get more out of a good motor and transmission together. Right now 3.0's are bringing some money.

It's a 3.0 flex, Don you got rid of yours a little too soon. I told you I would find you a motor eventually.

OK Decisions made, this will be a 3 phase project since I fully intend on keeping this truck forever or till it rolls.

Phase 1. Interior, since I'm driving it.

Phase 2. Full V8 swap with real 4wd transfer case, electric shift.

Phase 3. Exterior and paint.

On the interior I have before shots:

This is actually after about 2 days of cleaning, the thing was really nasty.

I'll have to chalk it up to a blind squirrel finding a nut, just ranger luck.

When the bed comes off I'll take some pics of the frame. Only mild wire brushing will be needed before coating. It is quite unusual. That will be during phase 2.

Was scrolling and saw this. I remembered you saying 4x4 standards were hard to find. So when I saw this green one I had to share.

LOL 50,000 more miles than mine and costs 2500 more. I wouldn't say they are "rare" you will simply find 10 ex cabs to every short cab.

One fully equipped with power everything and a 4.0 is rare, I have only seen 2 in the past 4 years.

Look at the grill, this is interesting (to me). The painted grill versions do not follow the standard that the non painted grills do. It is set up like a 2wd grill. The horizontal is in front of the vertical runners where in the chrome or non painted black grills for 4WD the vertical runners are in front of the horizontal one.

2WD chrome grill:

4WD chrome grill.

Except for the painted ones.

Yesterday I did more cleaning to the interior, pulled seats out, swapped tracks for the new driver seat (thank you black06xlt for the interior parts) and installed it.

I'm still torn on if I should go ahead and install the shorty console or wait to find a full length. This is the first shorty I have seen with vinyl top on the arm rest and it is in excellent shape.

Next steps- drill and tap the broken seat bolt for the passenger, find screws to plug the holes left by the middle seat belt.

I have a steering wheel on the way so that will go in. Cruise pods get LED's, dash components get LED's.

I have a OHC with all sensors and wires and the lighted mirror visors I would like to put in, I can do that without spending any more money.

I also have the door motors and switches for the power windows and an automation module to make them go up and down one touch style.

These will probably be the next steps.

So far it is just as pictured. I took it for a ride today and the new seat fits it well. I guess I could go ahead and mount the shorty and if a full size comes along I'll just switch it out.

I would go ahead and mount it and see how you like it. I thought about doing the full length console when I did my interior swap but I would have had to modify it for my 5speed, and part of me thought it would make the cab too confined. So I went with the shorty.

Ford put full length consoles in 5 speed expo's. My neighbor had a 97ish may have been a 95 full length console and a 5 speed

My ranger driver side window button has "auto" on it. If I tap the button once it goes all the way down. Is this that 535T thing you were talking about. Are you making both window capable of that?

I'm interested in a "how to install 535T". My electrical experience consists of changing fuses, lol, swapping out existing switches and outlets in my house so I'd need layman terms. Lol. But it sounds like a cool mod.

WELL my install is going to be somewhat custom since I don't currently have power windows. As I get in to it I'll know better how to apply it and I'll post what I can. I do have all the stuff for power windows I just have to spend hours putting it on.

I looked at the diagrams and it actually looks easy compared to some other mods.

I have the PDF:

Yeah I remember you saying in one of the threads that you might not do a how to because of how Franken your mod was. Wasn't sure if this was the one.

Winter really took this project to a screaming halt, along with the fact it is in my garage and I have a busted spring now.

So tonight I played Buggman, since I bought the cruise pods that had LED's already, it made it easy to kick it up a notch. I did the easy one first:

The haze is in my stupid camera it looks crisp in person. Other one is going to be twice as hard.

I did use blue 5050's

What a pain. There is a broken off bolt where the passenger seat bolts, right rear. I broke it, tried to drill it, drill walked and drilled about 20% of the bolt... mind you I'm a machinist with access to tools most people don't, makes it funnier.

Flash forward to today. Dremel, carbide burr, I'm going to get that thing out.

Vibration triggered my carpel tunnel problem in my right wrist, dremel overheated and started smoking, it always had a problem but today it decided to be tempermental. Screw is still in there beside the large hole I created.

So I tried a riv nut, it wouldn't sit flat enough to bite.

It is the little things! If it gets any worse I'm removing the carpet and torching it out.

Determined to remove the bolt fragment that some reason is MUCH harder than a normal grade 8 bolt. It is dulling the carbide quickly. If I slice it with a cutoff wheel I put another scar in the floor pan.

This is the result of trying that very large 1/2 20V impact I bought from Matco. It pulled all the rest!

Just venting more than anything I'll get it. Off to buy a dremel.
