Please read complete description. I will not answer questions that are already answered here.
All pictures can be viewed here. https://columbus.craigslist.org/cto/d/marysville-1988-ford-ranger-short-bed/7072091511.html

Asking $5000 OBO. Located in Marysville, OH

88 Ranger short bed,
5.0 Mustang GT roller cam engine, bored 30 over.
AOD Transmission, 4R70W (heavy duty) internals
8.8 Rear end with 355 Possi from a later Ranger.
Vintage Air heat / AC
Modified front hubs and rear drums for 5.0 Mustang wheels
89 / later seat and door panels
Electric windows

Dual electric fans

Truck was rebuilt and completed around 12 years ago. Build was done by a long time Ford dealer body / mechanic. Started his own shop 15 years ago and built this truck for his father. His fathers health is failing and can no longer drive. I bought the truck last year to play around with, but have decided I need to concentrate my time and money towards my other projects.

Truck started as a pretty clean solid southern truck. Build was meant to look as factory as possible, clean and reliable. Engine is stock spec with dual exhaust. They originally had headers, but decided to go with stock manifold because of constant leak problems. The frame  has been modified for headers. Truck starts and runs just like a stock one. No running or mechanical issue that I know of.

The body was repainted at that time. New bumpers etc. After about 6 or 7 years he started to drive it year around and rust started to show up.

When I bought it, there was rust on the bottom of the drivers door. The lower edge of both front fenders, over the rear wheels. There is also little spots showing on the cab corners. The front bumper which was an aftermarket item is rusting from the inside out.

I located a replacement door and purchased aftermarket front fenders. My plan was to use the fender lips from the original fenders and repair the rear fender lips. The guy who built the truck, painted the fenders and door. I have installed the door and the drivers fender. I will of course include the new painted passenger fender and the original fenders with the truck.

Truck shows 54K miles but true mileage is unknown, cluster was replace when the build was done using a better condition used cluster. According to the builder, his dad put between 15 and 20,000 miles on the truck.

I have a clear Ohio title in my name, ready to sell.

Thanks for looking, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Welcome to F-R Mark, one of our mods was invited from a Craigslist ad!
I'll add some pics, this is the Ranger I've been looking at for weeks now, I'm afraid to go see it in person!

I saw that too.

Nice looking truck, if I didn't have mine it could work.

I've seen a 2WD '88 converted to 4WD.

Please talk to me about the Vintage Air System, what model, any special brackets, how did it fit ?

Thanks for posting.

PM is good !

Sorry, as stated in the listing above, I did not build the truck. I do not have any additional info on the AC install other than it works..

Thanks
Mark.

No worries on the info; Ive been in touch with Vintage Air and of course they can not recommend a particular unit... except two universal units.

Ive been thinking on a V-Air Unit for a while now but have too many things in the fire.

Thanks for showing this truck, like the idea of no engine bay based heater unit.

Friend of mine used vintage air on the 1949 Ford F1 project (97 explorer awd with Ford F1 body) and it worked out AWESOME!
I am sure you could stuff one of their universal models under the gen I dash once you rip out the factory HVAC stuff.
This silver truck is awesome, great price too I would be PROUD to own it!!!!!!!!

I'm using Vintage Air for my '82 Scrambler and thought o fusing something like it in the Ranger for a while now.  Seeing it from the engine bay side for real is another story and IT IS WHAT I WANT but as everything else too many things on the table.

I was hoping Mark40 might have some left over paperwork on the truck, something I have since day one on this Ranger, and that Mark40 might have been able to look it up.

As I stated above, Vintage Air isn't will to say... "Yes this will fit", can't blame them, they go to the safe side when ever a question like this pops up.

I do appreciate the pictures of the engine bay, a good clean look.

Marl40, any chance of getting picture of under the dash, the heated unit ?

Either way thanks for starting this Thread.

Better yet Mark, you said at one point the gentleman that built this is "talky" does he do forums? Maybe invite him for some insight in to his methods and madness LOL.

Edited and added: If Mark had a lot of interest in this vehicle he would be keeping it. I believe his primary goal is selling it to support other projects which we can ALL understand.

@Mark, you will have to understand all of us here are hyped up enthusiast that are driven from methods and stories and pictures. If there were a book detailing this build I would already have it on the way and if one did exist you could sell enough copies to keep the truck LOL.

Ha, no... He only just moved up to a smart phone from a flip one.. No internet for him..

p.s. he did not do the Vintage air install, that was done by a shop in the Springfield area.

Good you took it off the market to drive it, it should be a great fun toy, a lot more moving power with the 5.0L than a 2.9 V-6.
If you are ever get under that dash... and you happen to see a model number, I would appreciate it if you would write it down, take a picture and send me a message.

Good Luck, enjoy !

It's more than the A/C, its the complete Heater/Air Conditioning unit, the extra room in the engine bay, a better system you don't have to worry about replacing Resistor Paks and Flapper Doors.

The vintage air stuff is not that complicated. Their website shows the dimensions of their units. Take your dash apart, remove the current heater core, blower etc and measure.  I would guess that the Gen II Mini would would be the best way to go. I have installed one of those into a MGBGT that I have done a V6 engine swap into. If it can fit in a B dash, it can fit into the ranger one for sure.

Just me 2 cents.
