 While my company truck was getting repaired my boss secretly had a GPS tracker installed. I wouldnt have noticed for a while had if it weren't for its red light blinking when the trucks battery died. I've been an employee here for almost 20 years. A couple years back the bosses step son was moved into the office since hes too big to climb ladders or be on roofs anymore. Since then some employees were put on a timeclock app, othe rest have to use a biometric time clock. All this has been implemented to prevent time theft. It's ironic that the guy who dropped me off at jobsites and picked me up after I did all the work and he claimed the same hours is the same guy making sure no one else can do what he did. Lol.

 Just going to throw this out there, I assume that you didn't agree to/sign paperwork stating that you're willing to be tracked on the job? This seems like a very toxic work environment... Is it worth starting to look for new work? I probably would...

 I was not informed about the tracking device. I'm too old to start back at the bottom.

I drive to the customers houses and repair or restore chimneys and masonry. In the past we have had an employee who would go do his side jobs with his unknowing apprentice while getting paid to do company work. I have been loyal and  trustworthy employee.

 If you throw a Faraday cage around it, it won't be long before they notice the signal dropping out. And since it will broadcast while you off duty, only stops when you are on, they may figure out that something is up.

All of the above for sure, and just maybe as Jamman stated, maybe they aren't in place for you but just in case someone else in the group takes your truck.

I don't know but, "is it appropreate for you to ask your Boss about the units" ?
Not aggressively, just in a "Hey Boss, look what I found" type of question.
Just maybe there is a reasonable explanation, and after you talk you will find out it isn't about you !

I know about not wanting to start from the bottom, happened to me at 50 and would have at 60 but I retired... PITA !

 I have nothing to hide from my boss regarding work. The reason I'm not happy about the tracker install is because they did it on the sly. Since they didnt inform me I'm going to do my best to confuse them. If they have a problem with it they will have to come clean and inform me.  

I'm the only one who uses this truck. I drive it from home to work and home again. It's a perk for me but they also dont have anywhere free to park it themselves. 

I did a quick check of the other trucks and either I'm first or I'm the only one.

Vyncslinks002 can also be used to monitor the vehicle but when you go to their website the things they emphasize are employee time management and real time location data.

In my opinion, if you dont trust your employees get ones you do. If you suspect an employee is not where hes supposed to be for as long as he says then install the tracker but the employee should be notified.

Spying on employees is as despicable as making employees use their cell phones and data for work purposes without providing a company phone and plan or compensation for data use. Not everyone can afford unlimited data

Why just your vehicle ?

I'm not the best person, when confronted, so I think the Tracker is a Confrontation to me, I would ask about it and settle everything all at once !
maybe you are doing something that they don't like, you will never know unless you ask ?

 When I'm upset about something it's not good for me to initiate the conversation. I get too animated and loud. I try to let it go but it almost always builds up till I get pissed. I avoid conversations with the boss because of this.

The entire 20 years at this company it seems my boss doesnt like me personally but his customers rave about my patience and kindness towards my helpers, my professionalism, quality of work, and cleanliness of my jobsites during and after the job. I just think he hates me for something someone else may have told him. What I have no idea. I've tried to make him happy but I've concluded it just wont happen. I'm the only one who gets good customer reviews. I've had 4 customers in the last month who emailed letters to my boss and to their referral agencies. I'm the best he has but I've never felt appreciated. When he let's me know I've received another good review it's almost painful for him to tell me. We dont solicit reviews so these are customers who take the time and effort to share their appreciation on their own accord. I've never had a customer complaint. I just need to make it here another 15-20 years and I'll be good

I think I'm the first to get the tracker. The V10 Triton truck broke today. Itll be going to the mechanic so you can bet I'll be checking when it returns.

I got the signal blocker today and i checked it with my other phone. It cant discover the phone in the signal blocking bag In bluetooth or wifi. So it works. Time to confuse the snoops.

 Bullying, back stabbing, intimidation, and name calling are the norm for most small construction companies. If you complain like I have here, you're a whiner. This would be seen as a sign of weakness. Not a good thing in a trade where you're supposed to be tough because of all the hard dangerous stuff we do. Trades are decades behind, most would be considered toxic or hostile work environments and is probably why very few young people plan to work in trades anymore. That, and the fact that you have to say please and thank you to them all day. Lol. I've climbed to the top finally but the guys that were my leads are now my supervisors. Lol. So even though they are not on site being jerks anymore, they are instead in the office making policy changes that can no longer affect them. Assholes!!!

 Sometimes situations turn out good though. There was a guy where I work that couldn't design his way out of a paper bag, he had been there 25 years, I ran the machine shop and he complained ALWAYS that the machine shop being behind was why he couldn't get anything done.

Long story short I have his job now, he doesn't work there any more.

Sometimes these political things turn out in favor of the good guy.
