There's a NEW kid on the block..! Rivian ~ out of Plymouth Michigan Concept truck that might just be a game changer.. You have to listen to the specs. 4 Electric motors @ 700hp equivalent power, 1 meter of water crossing depth capable, 14\" stock ground clearance, Gear tunnel behind the cab 912.6Cu ft. lockable space, and the front trunk under the hood is kinda bad ass too!! Just a little larger spece'd than a newer Tacoma I would think would be reminiscent of the Dodge Dakota when it was considered the Mid sized truck over a Ranger, S-10, or Toyota P/U.

Hope you had fun Tesla but.......

Cool concept but with a starting price of $61,000 for the small battery version, it's a luxury vehicle and not even in the same market as the Ranger, Tacoma, etc..

True.. I dont think anything in general would be competitive in the price range but considering how many Tesla's I see in Vegas and other places and the average is $85k... I dunno anyone with any mid sized truck let alone full size that does 0-60 in 3 secs either. lol

Only thing that didnt thrill me any was that spare tire in the bed thing.. That would become a ice chest before a spare tire well IMO.

Dude I see a lot of teslas in columbus! I'm sure not nearly as many as in the city of lights but still I think this brand is mildly more popular than the mainstream media would let us know.

Tesla's are everywhere

I love the Rivian!!!

My favorite part of the electric vehicle movement is THE POWER BILLS!

Okay so you are not putting fuel in your vehicles tank..... you are using fuel at a power plant 1000 miles away instead!
I mean its not like these things are being charged by solar and micro hydro systems at your home. Whats next electric vehicle charging lots? Do you pay by the hour or by the watt? Who pays to charge these things?
I would LOVE to see the power bill for your home in So Cal after running the AC all summer and now charging your Tesla 3-5 times a week!!
Nobody ever seems to mention the cost or source of power it takes to recharge the batteries

Plus the impact the battery banks have on the environment in the long term...seems a prius leaves a larger scar on the planet then a 4 door 4x4 tahoe? Because of the process it takes to build and dispose of the battery bank.

Now with that said I think electric motors and batteries are awesome, I would love to have a 4wd rzr that can go 400 miles between charges. Electric motor = instant torque. Electric rzr = silent and no emissions,  maybe they would finally allow rzr's out in the streets AND wilderness instead of just on federally mandated UTV trails.....

NO NO NO electric car/truck for me. Nothing replaces the sound of a good ol' V-8. I will turn in my license if I have to drive an electric vehicle.

I see your point but I remember back in 1983 I had a job as a professional fork lift driver (though in Michigan they were referred to as "Hi Lows").

I took to the Hyster Electrics. The range of acceleration, speed of acceleration and raw torque they had could not be matched by any fueled hilo. I wondered daily "why haven't they done this with cars"

Now if internet had existed back then I could have quickly researched and seen it did exist but wasn't mainstream, mostly because of battery weight and design.

I do agree there is something about the sound of a ground pounder V8 that is mesmerizing.

As a child I wondered why the reciprocating piston internal combustion engine still existed since it was just bling on an old inefficient design. People still don't see how much you lose with a rod being jerked back and forth 100 times a second X 8. I'm amazed they have it working as well as they do.

It is kind of trendy to consider your electric to be a 'zero emissions' vehicle.   In reality they are 'shifted emissions'.  How much power in the US is generated in a manner that causes no emissions?  I could look it up but it ain't much.

I applaud the idea behind it.  And I am a big fan of Elon Musk.  But the technology has a little ways to go before it starts replacing internal combustion wholesale.  From battery manufacture, materials involved and the processes to electric infrastructure for charging.  Not to mention cost.  I see plenty of electrics around here.  Expensive Tesla's, Model 3's, Leafs etc.  But still a minority by a long shot.

When the first Tesla Roadster came out, I was eating lunch at a Taco Bell.  I know I know, I was younger it was cheap.  I was riding Max  and a couple was leaving in their Tesla.  I was checking it out, and they were checking out my ride.  When he pulled out, the acceleration was incredible!  And creepy as   because the only sound it made was the tires on the road...
