 Small ammo companies that make new and re-load ammo. Usually away from metro areas. I have one 25 miles up the road that I get my powder and primers from. They have not shipped or taken internet orders in over a year and have a weekly limited run of one caliber only and limit how much you can buy in a week. They used to be open Tuesday thru Saturday. They close the showroom when they sell out of last weeks ammo. They have been open for 3 day weeks for months but are busy in the back making ammo. As far as reloading goes they haven't had primers for sale in over a year. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to get powder if it is not in stock.

 I went to Outdoors Unlimited in Smyrna to find a RMR cut Glock. I was wanting a G34 or a G40 as the two prime candidates. No luck with either of this models but they did have a G45 MOS and a G47 MOS.  I am headed to the range tomorrow with a new Glock 45 MOS and a Sig red dot.  It is basically a G17 frame with a G19 slide and barrel. It has a different feel without the extra weight of a long slide. 

The Sig Red Dot was a bit of a pain to install as the mounting screws were about one thread too long and there was no provision for the front centering lug. I ground off the front lug and took 2 threads off of the mounting screws.  It takes a .050 Allen wrench to adjust it. I will give a range report tomorrow.

I also sent my G20 slide out for a Glock RMR cut to work with the Glock adapter plates. It is a startup business where I watched the lead engineer/owner grow up. This is his first large frame as all of his Glocks have been the smaller frames.  Michael is also going to make a few decorative cuts in the slide and round the edges to get the weight right for the added Red Dot. He is going to map it to make a new slide and use the new slide as a test for the first large frame cut. Once he can re-produce the slide with the RMR cut he has a new product that he will add to his store. He told me that he was going to use it for an 80% frame for his collection. The only drawback is I will need to get it Cerakoted as he doesn't have that capability yet.

 Glock 45 Range Report. This is my first Gen 5. I like the grip almost as much as the Gen 3. I had the red dot sighted in by the 9th shot for 20 yards using a 124gr RN FMJ. The second magazine I had a failure to feed five shots into the second magazine. Nothing looked out of place with the jammed round. I put it back in the magazine and filled the mag back up. It fired without issues. It is a tight gun and gritty with a long trigger pull.

I broke the gun down and put a "Lady Ghost Minus" 3.5 lb connecter in. The next magazine was a 31 round ETS with 124gr Plated Round Nose bullets. The trigger was an easier pull but it is still a long pull. I got another FTF jam with a 17 round ETS mag. Same results as the first, it fed without issue once reloaded into the magazine.  I basically went through every magazine I had that would fit that gun. I shot about 160 rounds and had 3 FTF. One with each type of ammo I brought except for the 17 rounds of Hydra-Shock JHP.

The red dot held true from start to finish. I am shooting most shots inside the 4" ring at 20 yards. For a little perspective I also had my S&W Model 65 357Mag and I can keep most of the shots inside the 3" ring at 20 yards. The long trigger pull is something that needs to be addressed. I have polished slides, ramps, plungers, and connecters in my previous Glocks. I had a Glock factory armorer show me how to do all of this.  Glock's stance on this now that polishing makes the guns less reliable. This Gen5 is the only new Glock I have had that had FTF in less than a thousand rounds.  I will be polishing this and looking at options to reduce trigger pull length.

IMO the Gen3 Glock was the best generation made. The grip was good and with a little polishing it was a very good gun. The Gen4 9mm and 45's had a tendency to pitch brass to your face and the extractor would need to be swapped out on a fairly regular basis. I have had over a dozen Glocks and I can get two a year on the Blue Label program. I have 3 right now.  I have seller's remorse on a Gen3 G17 Ported Longslide 9mm and Gen3 G36 45ACP. I sold the G17L to a buddy when I knew I was going to be living overseas for a year. I thought I could buy another one when I got back but any runs on them ends up where they are instantly sold out. The G36 I was able to ship it to Afghanistan. I couldn't ship it back and sold it to a South African security professional for a little more than what I had bought it for.

 Interesting.  I know a couple of Glock guys (they WILL NOT own anything else), and they swear that their guns have NEVER jammed in ANY way (failure to feed, failure to eject, etc.).  My son (ArcticWolf) bought a new Gen 4 Glock 19, but that was right after C-19 became our national pasttime.  I think he MAY have run a magazine or two through it.  Nice piece, though, with a good feel for my size hand.

 My G37 45GAP has over 50k through it. Every jam was ammo related where I got sloppy with adjustments on target ammo.  The G17L had about 20 k through it without a hiccup but it ran dirty because of the porting. I have no desire to have a ported gun again.  The rest of them I had less than 3k rounds through them before I got rid of them for various reasons. The G45 is the only one that has jammed for no apparent reason.

I would like to get the G38 45GAP Compact, G17L, and G-40. The machine shop that my G20 is at belongs to the kid that grew up across the street (he is now 36). I have driven a few of his larger projects that needed a CDL driver because of the weight.

While I'm waiting for some paperwork to go through I'm in my garage maintaing muscle memory plinking with my full auto panther arms dpms full metal training rifles and a umarex steel strike 6rd burst 4.5mm bb guns. I know this is supposed to be a powder gun thread but🤷‍♂️.
















I get 6000 shots for under 10bucks😉

 Basement and garage ranges can be fun. Back when my son was 10 or 11 we set one up in the basement. I used my 44Mag  where I had 60 primed cases and a block of colored gulf wax. With eye and ear protection we would soot the wax bullets across the room to our target. It was accurate as lead at 20 feet and could make some nice wax creative art. It was a cheap way to teach gun safety without leaving the house.

My son didn't get to shoot real ammo in the 44 until he was 16. One shot and he had enough. It was a sub magnum load but it did pack a punch. He tried it again when he was 20 and managed to shoot the entire cylinder. He said it was too much for a pistol.

 Totally agree 44mag is more than I could take. My elbows are shot from laying brick.
Watched my friends in our 20s smack themselves in the face shooting these and knew better....

Since you guys are being so kind with my airsoft I'll share the one I'm anxiously waiting for because even BB guns are getting backorderd.



It's a full metal baretta m9a3 replica BB pistol licensed by baretta. Full auto, 18rd magazine. 


I also ordered a 7inch mock osprey suppressor( barrel extension) and 2 40rd extended mags.

I think if you can train yourself with one of these you can build the muscle memory to shoot the real one without hesitation in the event its needed

 It is my Grand Pa's gun. I got it in my early 20's. I was a crack shot with it in my 30's and 40's where it was a handful but manageable.  Now at 59 I can't handle  6 rounds of 44 Mag without pain. I have been loading 44Spl loads into the 44Mag cases I have for  the past 7 years ( I loaded once , 250 rounds).  The 44 is semi-retired. I shoot 6 round out of it per year. It is 5 months overdue.

 @Eddie: Nothing wrong with high-end airsoft or CO2 guns.  I own a Crossman C1077 CO2 pellet rifle myself; haven't shot it in years.  Actually, it has had exactly ONE round shot through it.  I bought my son what was called a Tanfoglio Witness, which was a beautiful replica of a Colt 1911 Government.  Semi-Auto with blow-back and everything.  Looked like and weighed pretty close to the real deal.  He was around 12 years old at the time.  I still have the black plastic trash can that he shot full of little holes with it.  LOL

@Tony: Grand Pa's gun.  Then that is old and probably worth a fortune.  My son has a S&W 686 in 357magnum.  I won't even TRY to shoot it.

 The 44 is a Sauer and Sohn Chief Marshal manufactured by Hawes. It is the more common blued with a cracked rosewood grip. The crack does not effect shooting.  It was probably used as a hammer and was like that when I got it. I saw a pristine version that had the optional brass backstrap at a used gun counter for $300 back in 2018. It sat there for 6 months then they started dropping the price $10 a month. It was still there at $270 and was gone the next time I went. In today's market it is probably worth in the $300-400 range if it had a good grip on it. BTW: Spare parts are not available but there are a couple gun shops that specialized in them that have some select used parts.

Hawes made a pile of these guns and marketed them under different names. Back in the day it was an inexpensive alternative to the pricy Colt's and S&W's. My GrandPa kept it in the glovebox and it did not have a holster so it has a lot of wear. He also shot it quite a bit as the ejector rod is worn about half way through. Most of what he shot was shot shells to kill snakes. I have put less than a thousand rounds not counting the wax target shooting.  I have a cowboy cross draw holster for it. When I deer hunt I take it with me loaded with 250 grain wad cutters that are loaded to magnum specs.

I have a S&W Model 65 357Mag w/ a 4" barrel. It is a pop gun with a maxed out magnum load compared to the 44. My 10mm is about half way, power wise, between the 357 and 44.  Where the wheel guns shine is the wide range of bullet weights it can shoot. The 10mm is limited to 135gr to 200gr. I have shot everything from 95gr up to 220gr in the 357.  The 44 has ammo that starts a 180gr JHP up to the 250gr WC's. The 44 can be loaded heavier and lighter but I only make sure it is operational periodicly.

 1911 Government model update. A few months back I did a full disassembly and re-spring with Wolf springs. This is my first series 80 1911 and I had a few extra parts that I didn't know where they went. It took a couple of tries and multiple Youtube videos to figure out what I was doing wrong. The first visit back to the range I had feed issues, stovepipes, and the hammer not locking back problems. I put most of the old springs back into the gun and I cleaned everything up except for the stovepipes. I had enough and carried it to a gunsmith with my extra Wolf springs. After 2 months he had me come pick it up. No charge, as he was unable to fix the hammer no locking back with the "new" Wilson Combat spring set that he had installed. He recommended sending it back to Colt.

Last Thursday I spent some time with Colt customer service on the phone. The issue is the sear spring for a 9mm is a tad smaller than the sear spring for a 45 ACP. Both Wolf and Wilson Combat sell only 45ACP sear springs in their spring sets. The 45 ACP sear spring will fit  and cause all of the problems I have been having. I got a Colt sear spring in today and swapped it out. The hammer is locking and it is manually cycling without any issues. I have range time scheduled for Thursday

 Range report!
1911;  It is 100%. I shot a variety of ammo though it and it was flawless.

AR-9; I removed the piece-o-crap Armaspec 9mm sound mitigation buffer and returned it to the original design. It will eat any ammo that it is fed once again. I am running a carbine buffer with the 9mm bolt plug and 10 quarters as a spacer. Without the quarters the bolt slams into the frame just in front of the buffer tube. I will keep looking for another buffer tube/spring setup that works like it should. Until I find something the redneck engineering solution will be in place.

Glock 45 9mm; It is official, it is a turd of a gun. The variety of ammo I shot through the 1911 I also shot through the G45 where I had mis-feeds, stovepipes, and multi-feeds. I had verified all my reloads with a case gauge prior to going to the range and also used 2 different factory loads as well. I had 7 different loads and none of them was able to feed and fire 10 rounds without a problem. I am going to pull the red dot off and put the blank back in the RMR cut and stick it in the safe till next year when I can sell it. It is a Blue Label gun so I have to own it for at least a year before I can sell it. 

I still have one more Glock I can buy on the Blue Label program this year. I am going to put my name on the waiting list for a Glock 17L or 34 tomorrow.

 Glad your 1911 problems are all sorted out! :-)  As for the Glock, I've never been a fan of them, although my son ArcticWolf1911 bought one brand new last fall and I have to say I like the way it fits my hand.  Never pulled the trigger on a live round with it though.  I wouldn't mind finding a used G19 to use as a beater carry gun... one I didn't really care about if it got dinged or scratched.  My CZ P-07 is my baby and I love it dearly... I just want it to remain pristine!

I WANT TO SHOOT SOME SH*T!!!  LMAO  It's time that ammo became more available and back to ~$.20 per round!
