Second guessing the decision to do the "rangers by years" sections.

From many years experience of running a car forum, it is not so much the year or model of the vehicle that is important, rather the subject of the query - so engine, transmission, suspension, bodywork, etc.

Sure there are differences in detail between the years but the solution to problems / upgrades etc are often common.

The other issue is that the more choices you give people as where to post, the more they will make a mess - posting in the "wrong" place or multiple posting to cover all bases.

Tough question to answer - if you leave it to run and change it later, you have to sort out the many posts already on the forum, so on balance I am going to abstain from the vote as a somewhat interested party....
:)

FYI, were you aware that using the current configuration, under the posts and topics headings, it shows 0 and 0 for each? YOu can see that there's been activity in there, you have to look twice to notice it is all.

The activity is in sub forums - but that should feed through to the forum as well, I guess ...

... off to have a look

Agree with Chris' post on this one, segmentation can be nice for organisation, but it always just created a segregated mess, not good for a community.

I personally think the by year is not needed; but instead by type. IE: For the most part, interior mods and Exterior, is the same across the years. Where Engines are not.

i kinda like the interior, exterior, engine, wheels & tires, electrical, etc. section layout.

if the person posting say interior mods for a 1998 ranger would include "1998" in the title or post, it may be easier to search for a specific year. while it won't be perfect, it might be a little easier to search... although most times we post a new thread everytime someone wants to know if they can fit 33"s on their stock truck lol.

i'm with chris on keeping it simple too. too many options may have people posting the same topic in multiple locations.

I am with Chris & buggman, keep it simple, like they said, interior, exterior, engine, wheels, tires etc.

How come the poll opinion isn't the opinion I'm getting from individual members in public and private?

I vote to keep it like other forums, it's a familiar format, and not rocket science to figure out.

Cos some people vote and run whereas others comment and don't vote ....

'tis why polls are so unreliable ... lol ;)

OK we change it. By years will go.

There are some things I don't think are needed I see in the other 3 major ranger forums (including the one we left)...

1. The use of the term "semi tech". No I can't do it.

2. (frf) cleaning and detailing. Covered under exterior IMO.

3. too many sub forums in classifieds. I do like the vendor section at FRF though.

4. (RF) a dedicated argue hole, a specific politics and religion forum. WHY? We can discuss politics and religion all we want in the water cooler forum.

5. (TRS) the general feeling that they added every single area that anyone ever asked for with no regard to how messy the place looks.

As time goes on, the contest section will appear and eventually the regional as we start to have meets which I would love to do.

The things I really like:

1. (TRS) individual pages for tech articles. A must have for FR eventually.

I am going to add a 4 wheeling section also I think the other places don't promote this exciting part of truck ownership.

So there :) If I have time tomorrow I will shut it down for a little while and re arrange things. Certainly before the weekend.

Thank you all for the suggestions and input, a forum is only as good as it's members.

2. Sponsored forums (RF). Helps pay the bills and the sponsors get customers.

OK Moves are done. I didn't copy anyone, I think I made it better, give it a few days before hating please :)

If you feel your topic was moved to the wrong area let us know and we will move it immediately to where you feel it should be.

The software won't re calculate the posts in a topic till the next post so if you don't see a "last post" entry this is why. It will balance out I promise you.

We have also made changes to the subscriptions, the software doesn't automatically sub you like it used to. This is to cut the e-mail sending. Again this will balance out in time.

Enjoy!

im going to vote for model years. i have an 06 and alot of the factory wiring is different from other trucks in this generation. i know its a pain in the ass but imo model years would be better then going by generations. to much stuff changes on these trucks from year to year

LOL I need to close this one it has already been changed. The original layout was by year sections and so many people were against it I changed it.

I have tech pages planned like TRS has and I will have separations by years for certain items. I would start it soon but I want to gather more tech first. We already I believe have the best collection of rear end data of any place I have seen I can't wait to get it together on a page of its own.
