Hey everyone,
This is my first Ranger that I plan to modify a little to go up in the mountains with for hunting. I have KC Daylighters that I will be putting on it once i figure out where to put them. I also plan on giving it a 2" lift for tire clearance. So far it's a great little truck, still trying to figure out a name for it. I do plan on doing more to it, like adding some extra lights to the bed so I can see better at night and reverse lights. I will be updated the mirrors to the 06+, as well as the headlights and grill once I have a some extra cash to throw at it.

The one problem I'm having is the throttle/engine RPM seems to go up to 2000-3500 RPM's when I push in the clutch. I have a feeling i have a vacuum leak somewhere but it doesn't show itself with starter fluid. New, IAC valve, MAF Sensor, IAT Sensor, and fuel rails and injectors.

Glad to be apart of this forum.

Chewy_719, welcome to F-R. Nice looking Ranger. I replaced the grille & lights on my 2000 using ones from a 01-03 & adding a power dome hood from a 01-03 Ranger. The problem you have with the idle could possibly be the IAC (idle air control) or the TPS (throttle positioning sensor). I would get some spray cleaner (carb, or throttle body cleaner) & clean the IAC & TPS & see if that helps before replacing any parts.

Thanks. I was surprised when I bought it on well of a condition it was in especially since it was a construction truck.

Good base to start from.

KC Daylighters... how many, how's the battery, alternator ?
You willed to fortify the charging system to support the lights.
150 watt Daylighters, each light draws 12.5 amps, that calls for 12 ga. wire per lights, pairs call for 10 ga. wire, plus one 30 amp rated relay per set of two lights minimum.
To me Daylighters are by far better than LEds, but some of the newer LEDs are looking good.

The lifting of the truck, if you just tweak the T-Bars, you end up with hard ride, best to consider a Suspension lift, everyone to their own.

The Bed Light Project is a good one, you can see the results, and it is usable.  I have 6 LED License Plate Lights to go on  my truck bed.  Three mounted on each side should be far more than needed, I might consider two per side before the project get started.

The picture shows how easy it is to mount these lights, two screws, then the wiring and that can go all over the place.

Another mod that is something to think on, IF you intend to keep the truck for a while, is Projector Headlights.  The Ranger lighting is bad to say the least and new headlights are a plus.  I'm not talking the Projector headlight Housings you buy on eBay, the best way to do this is a Custom Shop, Lightwerks or The Retrofit Store, both are expensive but their work is good.  Another pending project for me, I have the parts just need to attempt the project myself.

Enjoy your truck, it always fun to mod these trucks and there are a lot of things to do.

The battery situation could be improved. I am thinking about doing a dual battery set up with marine batteries or at least one for now. I'm also going to add a couple of lights to the back of the cab under the fold out seats for extra light.
I also found out that my truck is running very rich so I need to find the vacuum leak so I can fix it and make it stop wasting fuel and give it the power it's lacking

Chewy, when I originally read your intro I missed you said about a possible vacuum leak. If your Ranger has the 4.0 engine check the torque on the upper intake bolts they have a tendency to leak. My 2000 Ranger had the same problem a couple years back. Here is a link from you tube about a high idle problem.

I have the 3.0, but i can still check the torque on the intake. I'm going to use starter fluid and my scan tool and check to see where it's leaking to be positive its leaking from the intake. I can get the whole intake gasket kit for around $60.

A dual battery setup under the hood of a Ranger is a tough fit, but a great idea, setup the second battery to run the accessories using an Isolator; that way if you waste the accessory battery you can still get home.

The Seat Lighting, LEDs will fill the bill for interior lighting, if you have a Center Console, 40/20/40 Seating, you could add an LED light to the rear of the Console, then you can hook it up using either the door switching system  or a manual switch, or both on a double throw switch.

So many options.

There are guys on here that know the 4.0 and the 3.0 inside and out, me not so much, can't help ya on it but I know someone will comment, a good group this is !
The only problem with a replacing the Intake Gaskets... all of them, is the time to take all of the stuff off the engine and then put it back on... !
Gone are the days of the OEM clean engine compartments !

Enjoy the task, take your time and do it right !

Thanks, I usually try to take my time when fixing something and trying to keep track of nuts and bolts. I will be hoking the interiors lights to the existing dome light or door switch. The cargo/bed lights i will hook them up to the cargo light on a separate switch. I will be adding relays to to the ones that need it.

Sounds like a plan.Always something to do to a Ranger, if you want things to do.

The extra interior light sounds like a good mod, you can always use more light and Bed Lights are a plus.
I always want to add the bed Lights and a switch that would allow either a Manual Switch near the rear of the bed or an automatic switch at the Tailgate.
My Cab is a 2-dr Standard Cab, lighting isn't needed behind the seats but I was thinking lighting for the floor by your feet, actuate with the doors and a switch something to think on.

Adding floor lights wouldn't be too difficult. Run them with the dome light.

Exactly, but add a DTSP Switch (On-On) , with power from the door switches one side  and straight power from another "on all the time" source on the other, LED Floor Lights onto middle post... now you have either auto lights with the doors or you can flip the switch and get floor lights when you want them... or need them, without turning any other lights on !

Then you can do LEDs in the Gauge Cluster and Dome Light, then we can go outside.
One Mod I like and you will have to look it  ups the Blinker Mod, it allows the side markers to flash with the directionals, actually opposite of the directional but it looks good as dusk and dark.
And there is the Fog Light Mod to let you have the Fog Lights on with the High Beams.   You truck had decent Fog Lights so it might be something to consider... IF you even have them.

As I said there are a lot of Mods for the Rangers, read through the How-To on the this Site and other Ranger Sites and you will have a list of Mods that will keep you busy when Hunting season ends and starts again !

Enjoying Modding !

Ok, the leak is somewhere on the back of the upper intake manifold. Just replaced the PCV it was $2. If it's not that then one of the many vacuum lines back there.

Your right and if you change your interior bulbs to LEDs, then your overall amperage draw on that circuit will be reduced, allowing for more LED Interior Lights.

Hope to see a write up or two in the near future.

If you already intend to buy wheels n tires you could save $300 or so with the RC 5" lift kit from 12° North, check it out! Those guys are serious about customer service!!

Haven't done much to it since the trucks been running super rich on one side and lean on the other. That took a while to figure out. I fixed it today replaced all the intake gaskets and injectors.
