 Just bought a 2003 Ranger XLT Supercab, Midnight Blue, Automatic, 4.0 Lt and an aftermarket bed cap.

Over 220k miles, in need of some minor repairs and major upgrades.  Unfortunately, that means money I don't have, so, stuck to ~65 mph for the most part (roads here suck).

 Thanks for the invite!

Looking at doing a rebuilt modular at slightly over-square with the longest rod that will fit, for better torque and durability.  Unsure what tranny, but the more gears the better.  Suspension stinks, especially the rear.  Probably move to install dual remote heavy-duty batteries, to help weigh the rear down a bit, mount a tank inside the bed, box the frame, add full roll-cage assy to stiffen the whole body, at some point.

First steps are to fix the latches on the rear 1/2 doors, upgrade the stereo, better lighting all around (inside and out), see if I can find a split sliding window for the rear.

Would be nice if the rear side windows could be pop-outs like the olf F250 I once has.

 Welcome, although I don't know the Brand, I have a split rear window in my 2003 EDGE so they are out there.

Rebuilding a Modular "Slightly Over-Square", are you going to stroke the engine and what cubic inches will you end up with ?

I built a Long Rod 5.0L-W, still 302 CI but the Rods are .495" longer, and as you said the torque should come up on the lower end and the HP on the higher end.
Needed custom pistons with raised wrist pins and I added oil slingers to ad oil to the inside-upper portion of the cylinders and upper block area.

I remember a mod from the 2.3 liter that I think is applicable.  drilling through the rodends and bearing half-shells, then de-burring, tap and instal a jet to squirt cooling oil on the underside of the pistons.

If I understand correctly, certain rods for certain versions of the modular engines are already available with a similar feature.  In addition, one version of the Modular Emgine is supposed to be a truck version, for the F-series trucks, with a taller deck height to accommodate a longer crank throw.  The crankshafts should be interchangeable and just need longer rods to match the pistons with the highest pin, cutting costs considerably.

 raven1962, welcome to F-R. The only Rangers that had the pop open side rear windows were the 2 doors with the extd cab. There is not enough metal for the window latches to mount on the extd cab 4 doors.
