I was trying to figure out which transmission I have (I'm pretty sure it's the M5OD-R1) and so I went online and started looking for transmission codes, and I couldn't find mine...? I have a transmission code “R” and there's no manual transmission codes that are an “R”. Am I doing something wrong lol? Here's my door tag:

Edit: after doing some vin decoding on a couple websites, I found this

Did Ford not know what transmission they were going to put in the truck at the time lol? Was the person building the truck just like “hey, I don't know what transmission to put in here...ummm this one looks good”? Not sure what this means lol

M5OD

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ford_transmissions

the M5od-HD only came behind the SOHC 4.0 all others use the mazda 5 speed M5OD

Now with that said is it possible your truck was an auto from the factory and converted to a 5 speed?
The door code "R" comes up as a 5r55w, which is not correct
5r55w was never used in the Ranger

I am still trying to find Ranger transmission code "R" info online I am not sure it exists. I can only find full size trucks and explorer online........

so they are both R because you both have the manual trans behind the 4 banger
Im gathering that 06+ door codes are different then earlier models
because the rear axle codes changed slightly also
