Anyone got any experience with a Bluetooth to AUX jack phone kit?
I'm looking to add handsfree calling and music into my Ranger, which has an AUX jack but no Bluetooth in the factory head unit.  I'm not really interested in replacing the head unit...and the calling piece is, in many ways the bigger issue.  Streaming music works fine over an AUX cord.
Something like this, although maybe not this one- it's just the first one I grabbed.  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0176G5TRO/?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AgEAAAAAAAAAAI-3AAAAABW1zowAAAAAWAfx1A
Also curious for phone mounting ideas in this particular truck.  I've got a magnetic vent clip that works very well in my Mazda (photos attached) and was cheap.  But the Ranger vents are shaped differently and it doesn't work very well in the truck.  I would like to stick with a magnet-style, since it's easy and has worked well for me.

Some information on our gallery for adding multiple pictures to a single post is here:

Using the Gallery

The attachment button is for quickie pictures or ones you don't want in the gallery OR for PDF's or text files the gallery will not handle.

As far as the blue tooth thing goes I have never used one but it looks like you would just pair it with your phone, hit the AUX and run with it. I bet the USB plug is for power for power.

If you don't have bluetooth on your radio it sounds like the thing to buy, I bet you can figure it out real quickly.

And as for phone holders we have a thread around here somewhere but I don't think there was ever a solid solution. I have a shorty console in my Ranger and the forward cup holder has 2 divots probably for cup handles, my phone sits horizontal in there just fine :)

And I've landed on a different hands-free phone solution...

A Cobra 29 CB radio with BlueTooth, that I'll probably hang between the sunvisors.

Why? If you have to ask, you won't understand the answer.

Ain't nothin wrong with it. I was a CB nut when I was a teenager. I had the PA horn under the hood too so I could scare people lifeless :)

I even had the antenna with a light in it so it would illuminate when I talked. I don't remember why but I would have been able to answer it back then :) I had friends that had radios too. That's back when I had friends....

When I was a kid I ran a linear with my CB while on sideband, wayyyy up on some *unmentionable* channels that most people didn't even know existed (and technically, didn't), that somehow found their way into my gear with an *unmentionable* mod+inclusion of some additional crystals and switching that I figured out. After performing the mod, I soon began exchanging several cards in the mail from people in almost every state and some foreign countries, it was challenging and it was fun!

*I remember when I got the crystals, the guy at the shop told me, "don't tell anyone where you got these", lol.

Or not...shipped the 29 LX BT back today...and like I told the guy at Cobra...if this is their idea of properly functional, I'll never buy another Cobra product.

Slow and clunky to pair with my phone...and totally lost the pairing if shut the radio off. Even plugged (temporarily) into a constant-hot cigarette lighter- it kept time on the clock, but couldn't remember how to pair with my phone.

So I bought a Midland CB for the car, will put my old Uniden back in the Ranger...and start over on figuring out a handsfree solution in the Ranger.

john112deere,

If you are expecting a CB Radio to do your Cell Work for you think twice.
Cobra only added this device to pull in people that think there is a good think going, sort like when CB Companies made Hand Held  wired remote CB's... didnt work as well as they thought !

My new Radio... IF it ever gets in, has the new stuff, but costs an arm and leg; there are plenty of new designed Auto Radios out there that have the Bluetooth and all the Apps and don't cost a lot of money, stick to a name brand and it should work ok.  Me I'm a Pioneer Fan from way back... and I'm sticking to it !

In the mean time I wanted hand free calling so I purchased a Bluetooth Speaker from Motorola, it mounts on the visor in front of me or if the wife wants to talk she pulls it off the visor and holds it while she talks.  It links through Bluetooth, as long as I have the Bluetooth is turned on in my Samsung Cell.

It is a "Motorola TZ700 89556N Bluetooth In-Car Speakerphone"

It turns on when you slam the door or other movement and links up right away, IF you have it linked in your phone already.

Very clear sound unless, like me I like all the windows open all the time, I need to close up the rear slider and driver's side window to listen... but then again I am old !

"Just me thinking again... :brute,   when you use a radio for a Cell, through the AUX Jack that was not intended for that use... the speakers in the radio will not switch to Cell Phone and you end up with a lot of mixed sounds".

Buying a separate speaker or newer radio will cost more but will give you everything you are looking for in performance.

Make sure, if you buy a new radio, that is has the Cell Phone Hook up, either Blue tooth or other wise, but mostly make sure it will switch the music off and the phone on.

AND... for those still into CB Radios, it has become more of a private channel thing.  Everyone is using their phones to talk, ok it works, but the CB Channels are freeing up making for a clearer talk channel.

I have been an Amateur Radio Operator, HAM, for years and I still go back to the CB, sometimes there is less hassle and actual more enjoyment talking on it.

And before you ask, yes I have a powerful CB radio that will easily talk to the other side of the US, with the right conditions, and can easily blow out the receiving circuits on another CB Radio if it gets too close during transmit.  I think it put out somewhere in the 200 (variable) watts range straight out of the Radio, so no amp is needed.  If you have a CB Radio in your truck don't get rid of it, it will be easy to talk on it without all the extra chatter from too many people...  thanks to the Cell Phone !
