It's been rainy in seattle lately. Lol. I have a stock ride, no modifications on engine, suspension or gearing. It has 3:73 gears and its a 4 wheel sport extended cab. On wet pavement I've been slipping nearly every start. Even on level ground no matter how gentile i accelerate. I have all season ten ply tires  that are about a year old that i rotate regularly. Probably only about 10k on them.

My question is, are there any traction modifications that would help launch control or bite on wet days. I plan on going to 4:10 gearing and bigger tires later but I think this would only exacerbate my situation currently. If I went to a positraction it may help slightly but it would walk around corners funny and increase chatter. right?

My first question is the type of tires and the temperature rating on the tire? and are you slipping on all four corners or just in the acceleration aspects?

I have L.S. w/4.10 gears in my Ranger & if I do not step on the gas lightly when the ground is wet I will spin the back tires, or if I step on it a little to hard when making a turn on wet ground the back end will fish tail. All 3 of the Rangers I have owned do it & the brand X full size pick up I owned did it too, because there is no weight in the back end of a pick up.

I'm take a look when I go measure my axle housing. I know these were my 2nd choice for a tire but the ones I loved and had on were recalled after the 2nd year of driving on them and it was hard to give them up but who can pass on 4 brand new tires. Lol.

I'd ask what tyres too, i see a lot of trucks and SUV's around here with the local Les Schwab brand tyres on them, oh and over inflated a lot too.

Is it just lighting up one tyre?

Also, did you say you had cross ply tyres?!

It has been my experience that a limited slip rear has a greater tendency to slide around a corner. This is due to one wheel breaking free leaving the other to maintain stability and there is too much lateral force so it breaks free.

In a climate that has more wet days than dry I would look for a heavy lugged tire that is designed for wet weather and run it on the low side of the air pressure recommendation. Also, if you do have a LS rear axle it might be prudent to service the rear axle and leave out the friction modifier so that it basically disables the LS function.

Or, use a lighter touch on the accelerator and hit the corners slower...:whatever:

Im running Cooper atp tires. Not my favorite by a long shot. LT265 75 R16 load rated E. Im running 35 psi. They feel like a harder compound than my previous tires. I have no idea what temp they are rated for. Nothing on the side wall indicates temp. When I serviced the differential I did not add the friction agent. Its just the passenger rear slipping. I believe I have the limited slip differential as it's a sport model. Im sure it's nothing out of the ordinary. I was just wondering if there was a traction control, suspension mod, or differential mod that could improve traction or launch on wet pavement. Im fairly certain nothing is wrong besides my lead foot. Lol. Its been raining and ive been black friday shopping so ive yet to crawl under to measure whether i have the 31 spline.
