 Since I am putting ball joints on the jalapeno I figured I would throw those KYB shocks on I bought on sale at rock auto. Fail at the first bolt, I'm about ready to save them for one I'm selling and buy something else. Hand tightening the bottom bolts, something felt mushy so I took it back off. The bolt is a grade 2 at best and the lock washer feels like aluminum. No heat treat at all.

 Would the oe shock bolts not go through the hole, or did you lose the bolts? I too have found that most aftermarket suspension bolts are trash. The camber kit I bought (I believe it was moog) the bolt stripped when I was having it aligned. Luckily the guys had extras (they also sell used cars at that shop, and they have a few rangers. Way overpriced. Like 327k miles on one and they want 6k for it overpriced).

 I have bolts laying around, the bolts in the originals were studs that were staked on the shock. I'll take a pic when I step out back.

It is just the principle. If they can't put a quality bolt in the kit what is inside the shock?

I have bought 5 sets of camber adjusters, I got lucky the first time so I buy the same ones.. the AC-Delco ones from Rock Auto. 3 degrees of adjustment... a lot of them only promise 2.5. You will need most of the 3 degrees if you cranked your torsion bars. If they can't get 3 they have to loosen the bottom arm.

 Maybe they had the master engineer work on the shocks and the new guy work on the bolts...lol. Idk. To me, after buying a lot of aftermarket parts it seems like the quality is slowly going downhill. When I replaced my alternator it wouldn't fit on the bracket so I had to file it down a little to go in, The shocks I got when I redid the front end are already starting to go out.....now I pray I don't need anything else.

 It seems most aftermarket "on the shelf parts store" shocks for these trucks use those crappy soft bottom bolts!! I dislike them also

You are supposed to measure the camber first, see how far you are out, then order the correct camber correction shims, although it is nice to have a collection they want a fortune for anything these days (wood 2x4 is up to $5)

 I replaced my shocks in April 2019 with KYB shocks.  They were the cheaper ones, but I don't recall the bolts being bad or low-grade.

 I went ahead and installed the KYB shocks with the new Mevotech TTX stuff, using grade 8 hardware for the shocks.

My dust seals are not here yet so I had to throw it all together bolts loose to move the truck for access to my garage.

The truck sits about an inch higher. (?). Didn't expect that, I really wonder why. Probably the shocks. I'm going to crank the torsion bars before taking it for the alignment, I really want to start doing alignments because you could not tell right now that it has a fresh front end. The "guess" positions I put everything in looks straighter than it did before I took it apart.

I'll throw the seals in there when I get them and be one step closer to getting that particular project going.
