I have been reading that there are different racks in the extended cab VS the short cab, something about a different lock to lock ratio.

Can anyone find exact data to support this?

As I read it seems that the ex cabs have a quicker ratio than the short cabs which makes sense but yesterday was the first time I had seen this.

What are the ratios and can you get racks (off the shelf) that have a tighter ratio?

I found different part numbers for the ex cab and the short cab from some vendors and the same number from others. ?

Rack specs for 2000 and 2003 are:

R/C:  1.51" / rev.
S/C:  1.74" / rev.

I don't have dealer books for any other years but I would guess that all of the North American 98~11 rack and pinion Rangers have similar specs.

This all started when I noticed though my short cab has a smaller turning radius it seems to take longer to get there. So I was looking at ratios to see if there is a replacement. Even on a short cab if you drive 80 or below which I do, you should be able to handle quicker steering.

Is it a good assumption that physically the mounting on a same year 4WD between the ex cab and short cab should be identical?

AND is super cab the proper term regardless of 4 door or 2 door? Like "style side" instead of "step side"

I'm curious as to the catalyst that provoked this question in your head while turning into the local Subway sandwich shop considering U-turns aren't a legal option in Ohio... LOL

Your mind works in mysterious and strange aspects sometimes Jim.. (o_O) ?  LMAO

If I did... I'd own a cable Television show ranking in the top 15 slots of prime time television and we'd both have more money than we do.

I confirmed it over the weekend... it takes 2 complete turns a side to lock my short cab, takes 1.5 turns a side to lock my ex cab.

I would associate that with the necessary amount of turn-in difference needed to match both trucks in similar driving characteristics based upon wheel base.

It's possible although albeit slight to maybe moderate if interchangeable. You may see yourself having a new learning curve going around corners at different but higher speeds or making evasive maneuvers. I would think tire size may also have an affect in reducing or inducing how that feels possibly..

Now I'm curious if they have the same degree of turn as well, /     /           ?

Same degree in the end, just the short cab takes more turns to get there than the extended cab.

Well think about how something as short as a Honda CRX or a Suzuki Samurai turns in comparison to say an F150, even with a 6ft bed, or a 3500 Series with an 8ft bed? Although I'm sure quite possible, I haven't seen any fellow F450 Dually long beds competing in any drift competitions.. lol

There must be a design reason why the wheelbase affected the turning radius of a vehicle.

I watched a show on building a drift car and one of the things they did was swap out stuff to get the wheels to turn farther in each direction. That's what inspired my curiosity

I like that and it would help in parking lots, I don't know what the angle limitations of the CV joint is. Probably good mod for a 2WD

I have to do a little thinking on that one. It seems like it would be the other way around.

If you turn both steering wheels the same amount the wheels on both vehicles will end up at different angles.

If you turn to full lock on both vehicles one takes more turns to get there
