just bought a 2003 2.3 duratec auto transmission 131k miles, has a check engine light. Go to scan it, scanner won't link up. Check all the fuses, all are good. I'm using a snap on scanner. The truck starts (although it takes a couple seconds) and runs, shifts fine. What should I do?

Do you have power at the AUX power point?
I would check the fuses again

The OBD2 port gets its power from the orange wire, this is on the same circuit as your cig lighter

The both of the cig lighters have power to them. I don't know if there is power at the orange wire...

Check for 12V at the orange wire on your OBD2 port

You can try putting 12V to the orange wire and see if the scanner powers up and talks to the PCM

or try a different scanner? Could it be an issue with that snap on? I would check the fuses over again real good...use a test light or multimeter make sure the circuits are powered

If there is not power at that wire, what do I then do?

You need to check continuity and for dead shorts on the two wires that connect the PCM directly to the OBD port
There are two signal wires for the BUS system a + and a -
They are wound together.

Basically using multi meter, make sure there are no breaks in these two wires between the PCM and the port

See the pink with light blue and tan with Orange?
These are the serial BUS + and - wires
they go directly to your PCM and other modules

Pins 15 and 16 at your PCM:

I have seen the wires on the back of data link plug become loose. Check the pins

Well, I just got done putting a new heater core in the truck. Hook the battery up, fired it up, no check engine light. And I can now access the computer. Drove it a good 30 miles as well. I'm not sure what's up with this thing lol.
