You know, I have no idea. Welcome to FR!

I wouldn't take a chance anyway, plenty of ways to hide a gun. I live in Ohio where we can open carry but very few do because normies freak out when they see a gun.

One of the safest places you can stand is beside me.

Texas law generally restricts people from intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly openly carrying handguns in plain view of other people in motor vehicles and watercraft that they own or under their control, unless they carry the handgun in a holster and are either at least 21 years old or licensed to carry a handgun.

I'm not in Texas, but I am in AZ, which is one of the best states for gun owners, and my rule of thumb is, Keep it where somebody would have to work pretty hard to see it.

Incredibly good advice, could be applied to just about anything that there might be a law governing in any state or country. When in doubt don't whip it out.

One of the best sources out there that actually fights for firearm owners and unjust laws.  Very visible on any social media site as well as well known by any and all in the firearm industry.

I could see where having a firearm visible in your vehicle could lead to a door window glass replacement.  Where I live, if you leave anything in your vehicle that is worth stealing, you will lose your window and the item(s).

We would "Assume", I know - I know it always backfires on the internet, that the OP is speaking [more] about while they may be traveling around (?), having there firearm attached to a magnetic holster, or some form of clip-type of holstering for quicker & responsive reaction.  And without a doubt, but I don't know anyone in at least 2 decades+ that leaves any firearm in a vehicle, let alone not locked down/in it when left in the vehicle if they had to temporarily leave it.

I'll do best to leave personal opinions out of the conversation but personally, not too many places in Nevada you honestly can't carry into, even banks or bars don't pay too much attention, which is comical to me but the Post Office is one that is a No-No.  When I am carrying and on a PO run, I will typically duck in for a moment and pull the mag, pocket it, but leave the firearm locked in the vehicle safe.. as I open carry.  And when I return, it's returned back to the holster and on with the day

We do use a mount that was specifically designed for the topic at hand, but we have found it useful for MANY other creative things. but examples below were what came to my mind. Ideally, you could have the slide in a top or a side mounted position for what fits the need.  Some are probably familiar with quite a few different versions of the magnet mounts.

Magnetic mount example:

As for the "clip-style":

Images for reference only, although we do sell the magnet mount for a multitude of many purposes as I stated, we don't offer the clip-style.  The magnet mount actually has about 43lbs of weight capabilities, so you can see where that or a pair could come in handy in some creative upfitting purposes.  So depending on the letter of the law in Texas, there are minimalist solutions by many companies for the OP to explore.

I have a co-worker friend that uses a gun mount that resides right beneath the steering column.  When I questioned him about it, he said he leaves this gun there all the time.  I maintain that is a bad idea if you want to maintain ownership of that firearm.  All you have to do is look into the vehicle and there it is.  I have, on dozens of occasions, disarmed myself due to where I am going (hospital buildings) but the gun and holster are in my center console, out of sight.  It isn't the gun mount itself I disapprove of, it is the "in plain sight" aspect.  To each their own, so if OP or anyone wants to do this, it is their choice and I would support their decision.

Agreed, 43 lbs is a lot of resisted pull, I think my daily carry G23 with the conversion barrel/spring (9mm) and the 13+ 1 chambered (basically a G19 with a G23 slide) weighs in at like just under 2lbs

While you can keep your handgun in your car in Texas, it's not legal to have it out in plain view inside the vehicle. This means the handgun cannot be visible to anyone outside the vehicle. It can be in the center console, under the seat, in the truck, or anywhere else out of sight.

I find it interesting hearing people Like Roy Chip, Senator Cruz, and a few others always talk about all the "FREEDOM" Texas offers yet when you get to the letter of the law, it sounds like they're nearly as picky as some blew-states..
