This is the   that CMTFU.. and fuels rants like this

Same guy, within 15 mins of posting both topics. Legit question of concerns of things to check over on a used Ranger purchase - 0 replies/5 views

Ask what   light bulb is the best replacement 5 replies/196 views....

THIS is why Tacoma, Frontier, 4Runner, Xterra [dead platform], FJ Cruiser [Dead platform], even the Canyon & Colorado have more market support than Ford Rangers & explorers do. Sure there is a few companies doing stuff but unless your looking for full out desert racing thats rather limited.

A LOT of you guys are from the Midwest, close to Detroit. I grew up in Detroit and can remember a time when their were performance shops of all kinds from lifted trucks to hot rods and even tuner cars that were more prevalent than damn CVS stores on every other corner in town. Now they are far few and between, everyone bitches they have no place to go to but yet then the failure is in communication and support. Market dictates commerce - Dont ask, ya dont get... I for one dont consider swapping out LED bulbs in your license plate frame a damn MOD anymore than anyone else would consider adding a sticker or a decal as a MOD. what a bunch of posers!

And to top it off, WE the guys who really do MOD a vehicle beyond the decorative accessories are a dying breed of skilled workers regardless of how broad or narrow that skill set may be... My rant is prompted by seeing yet another performance shop business with multiple store locations close up. and not to long ago, same thing. And talking with upper mgment and owners I knew and know of several industries from Audio to printing and car wraps. I keep seeing the monopolies taking over - the things we had laws for to protect small business owners and keep things competitive and creative.

Just saddens me to see so many good companies and people just fold in and or give up, their families, the traditions, among other things I may just be overly sentimental about via business contacts and affiliations.

That's one of the reasons why I hardly go on that forum anymore...granted, i asked a bunch of dumb questions but some were actually good questions (not sure what constitutes a "good" question but I asked it so it must have been good lol ;) ) and then I'd see things like that. Someone asking a true question with actual concern, and get nothing. As for shops that mod/tune/customize cars/trucks, here in Texas that business has kinda exploded what with all of the car shows popping up that are based here. But you'll be hard pressed to find a decent shop that charges decent rates and does decent work.

Ha, touche` but its not the forum(s) so much as it is the culture or scene it represents if that makes any sense. And I get it, different groups change from time to time or generation of platform to another. i.g. Jeep guys/gals.. right? before the last 5 years you bought a Jeep if you were a serious outdoors guy with a penchant for being a minimalist and a self dependent individual.

typically we think Jeep - Jeep Images (Considered Normal)

Now.. 2018 enter in the new Fast & Furious crowd of throwing money away at bullshit accessor-ization of the NEW ME TOO crowd.

I've come to learn in my area especially in my line of work the younger generation of people consider modding your car is swapping out light bulbs. But to me modding your car would be adding things that your car doesn't have ie power windows, disc brake conversion, power seats just to name a few. I ran into that problem with that forum and the other popular Ranger forums real tech questions going unnoticed. Which is why iam a dedicated member to this forum. Every once in awhile I'll log into TRS but it even seems to be the same. To touch on what VelociRanger said to me the dumbest question is the question that is never asked. But it is aggravating to see a tech question go unanswered and something as stupid as a light bulb get all of the attention.

I guess I am old school. When I here "modding my car" I am thinking porting heads, bigger cam, increased fuel flow, higher compression, headers, and open exhaust dialed in on a dyno.

I worked in the motorcycle aftermarket industry for a while and quickly learned that "customized" means chrome farkles, meaning it looks different from the original iteration because the oil filter is now chrome instead of black.
It is all so silly, but big money, so we sold the crap to a lot of people "customizing" their bikes, and couldn't wait to sell them more chrome!
It was rare to talk to someone that wasn't a "Harley" mechanic, been working on them for 30 years. The guys that knew their   never pulled that line on us, and we respected them for it, and genuinely liked working with them.
Seems the automobile industry experiences the same thing.
