Chris has been working hard on some updates, I stand in the way as much as possible but he was finally able to squeeze a few things by me.

Within the next few days you will see:

MUCH better internet explorer compatibility.

Wider editor (what you type in when posting) more text space.

Single tool bar with most of the useless buttons gone.

In the next few weeks:

Vendor section will be completed

Like, kudos, whatever buttons will be implemented and will be tied in with the reputation routine.

Within 6 months:

New stickers!

The separate tech articles pages will happen with whatever info we have gathered by then.

Download section for PDF's of wiring diagrams.

More planned and I'm sure a few more suggestions will come up but that's all I'm committing to at the moment.

Happy 2018!

I wanted to hit the Kudos button or was it the Like button... now Ive got it, it is the Thumbs-Up Button !
All of the above sounds good.

Another thing to think about is, when I hit the return BUTTON while posting I get a two line jump instead of one. Always need to backspace ! maybe just but it happens more than not !

Working on more Mods, just need more time, longer days would work !

Oh yeah, that doubleline carriage return, i'm hoping that 'fix' is part of the post box improvements (along with not needing two spaces between txt and pictures)

It's turning out to be a chore. Every time it seems to work I manage to break it.
I just wish everything worked as smooth as quick reply LOL

I started my computer "career" as a programmer on IBM midrange systems. I really liked programming, but it was frustrating when you added a feature/function or fixed a bug, you usually broke something else. I see it hasn't changed a bit in 30 years! :)

It isn't helped by changes in the browsers - something that was coded in years back to cope with the browsers of the day may or may not work with modern browsers, ditto the standards for html, css & javascript.

One of the problems we had was caused by a tiny line of code that coped with early IE that caused modern IE to misbehave - just three words in 1000's of lines of code.

I am currently working on something very simple - what happens when you press enter - the 3 main browsers do 3 different things - so I need to find a way to get them to do the same or very similar thing.

Or I could just redirect any user NOT using firefox to the firefox download site ..... but Jim says I am not allowed to do that :(

Phase one already DRAGGING as it turns out to be more of a chore than first thought.
Can't we just convince everyone to use firefox? They make it for every device on the planet, it's fast and secure and just works.

Firefox works for me. It is my primary browser, although I am forced to use others at my job.

EDIT: I should put in the disclaimer that I am now glued to FF version 56.  Version 57 (Quantum) is a serious POS and needs to be banned in all countries.

Thanks for the effort to fix the "Double-Space Problem" and all of the problems that pop up with a new site, but fully understand some problems are harder to fix than others.

Keep up the good work !

At least I know I am not alone with this problem and it is on the list !

@Scrambler82: Totally off topic here, but would you post some color pics of your truck in your gallery? I would like to see it in something larger than your B&W avatar. Pretty please? :)

  • I change something
  • something else breaks as a result
  • Jim finds it
  • I fix it

@Jim: I prefer light sabres over glowing swords.

@Chris: As long as you break it and Jim finds it for you to fix, then the process is working!

@Both of you: You guys are doing a marvelous job of building this forum. Having a programming / IT / Technology background, I know these things take time and patience. Keep up the good work!

267 posts on the test board since this thread started, Chris and myself testing the new editor.

Just wanted to let everyone know we are still working on the goals. It is just him and I for right now we don't have a "panel" of programmers like the expensive software does.

The base code of this software has been proven for 10 years to have a much better handle on server resources than the "big boys (IPB and Vbull) and I have hosted forums based on this code that have had 300 active users at a time (and 5000 visitors a day) on a very small dedicated server. PLUS we can actually change things, on a Vbull you get what you get if things work they do if they don't then live with it forever.

Every Vbull I'm on I miss my "back to the top" buttons and the cookies actually working... forums instantly being marked read after you visit them. I like the PM system better here.

We can't possibly make is so everyone likes every feature, impossible to please all humans. However we do listen to everything that is said and suggested and will strive to please as many of you as is possible.

The "phone" thing is a big issue. I seriously can't believe that people have so much free time not in front of a real computer that they have to use their phones to surf with.

BUT that's just me and I am getting mildly dinged by google for lack of "mobile friendliness" on our pages.

So just know we are working on it.

I have used Tapatalk and the old FRF app. They BOTH SUCK! A phone is for making phone calls and a computer is for Internet surfing. I see no need for a phone app, but if you want to spend time developing one, that is your choice. Just know I will never ask you for one! :)
