I had the catalyst inside a cat come loose from the housing, PITA to figure out, truck ran perfectly until you would get on the gas and climb a hill. Seems the chunk of material was just laying in the housing until the right amount of pressure and incline then it would clog up the outlet and the truck would sputter sputter and usually recover.
Took me months to figure that out, this was before cat monitors, no codes, fuel pressure checked out, etc etc
When I finally figured it out I was thrilled.
Sounds like you got yourself a winner! replace a cat, tune it up, clean it up and flip it or economy daily driver!!
I only have two things to say about the escape:
1. There is no trans dipstick
2. I am super glad they did not call it "Bronco III"
