I use the tail gate of my truck as a work bench a lot too.
I stay away from the Tail Gate as a Work Bench, maybe just to set things on but no cutting anything; you should see my Saw Horses, all cut up from not watching what I am cutting. I got a pair of the plastic saw horses got a couple of cut in those too... man gotta think before cutting !
