the WW and radiator overflow bottle is separated by a divider between them

Once I build a sport trac to take over daily driver duties my 88 BII will be getting a full frame off restoration

Uhhhhh.... someone screwed that up it certainly does not. Probably someone switched the caps on you. The one with the little pump on the side is for washer fluid, the one connected to the reservoir tank comes from the radiator.

Unfortunately the caps are interchangeable!

Edit: not my engine, just a random photo from google of an 83. The circle is from a hose that pokes from the side of the radiator fill hole to the reservoir on the side. If zoomed in the cap says â€œwasher fluid onlyâ€

Also googled â€œ1983 ford ranger coolant reservoirâ€ and this was on eBay, which is what I have

I only have one reservoir, there's no divider between it. I'll take a picture in the morning. Maybe before the first gen facelift in 1986 I believe, this is how it was.

That tank looks to be divided as well, only in a different way on the 1983. I used to call them "belch tanks". They were sealed and only existed to keep coolant from hitting the ground if it expanded too much.

I wonder what number your Ranger is, I have always hoped to find 1983 Ranger number one the first one built and sold to public
I have only owned a 84 in the past and it was already chopped up and converted to a v8 (poorly)

Ohhhhhh. Okay from your picture with the coolant I can see the division now. Mine didn't have coolant in it and I didn't want to break it by opening it, so I assumed it wasn't divided. I suppose I can be wrong every once in a while :-P

that's kinda cool to see both colors of fluid in there. It also takes up like no space in the engine bay so that's awesome.

I finally got around to swapping AC condensers in the Jalapeno, parts been laying around for years. You can loosen and lean the radiator toward the fan and get the thing out no problem.

The old one was damaged in a front end accident and never replaced (previous owner) so it leaked. Charge the AC it works great for 2 days.

Bought a plastic box of assorted O-rings like 5 years ago. Not one of them matched the ones I needed! Found a bag of o-rings that came with some PAG oil I bought, and it only had one of the sizes I needed. I hope the o-ring search doesn't stall the project for another 5 years.

If you're that close to finishing the project, just go buy the correct o-rings... even if you have to go to the stealership.

I put the best of what I had in. Charged it with my 30LB tank of R134A I bought years ago also. WOW what a difference, open the valve and it's there. Took like 30 seconds to charge. The time between pump pulsing and running solid was like 10 seconds.

I come from "can" technology where you have to put the can in a vat of warm water to finish the charge even on the low side.

Stuck new o-rings and a new orifice/filter in.

Funny how this crucial part of the system only costs 4 bucks even OEM ford. To replace it you have to have the system evacuated, proper PAG oil charge and Freon charge which cost most humans well over 100 bucks. If you use your AC half the time and your truck is 15 years plus old.... the orifice is bad.

End result, the AC works incredibly well! I am a vacuum pump and an empty reclaim tank away from being an AC tech.

I have to do the silver truck also, its valve is so badly clogged the high side goes to over 300 PSI. It hisses for like 30 seconds after I park it.

I really wish I understood what you just said, Jim! My AC skills end at adding a little R134A make it colder. Obviously, my truck is hitting 20 years old and this orifice you speak of is probably dirty/clogged. Mine "cools", but it won't freeze you out. My best bet is to take it to a shop and let them do it.

On cold mornings, my A/C will "thump" most times right after I turn on the heater (provided I haven't hit the button to disable the compressor). I wonder if that orifice/filter is the cause of that anomaly. I mean, the thump is loud and you can FEEL it when it happens. I know it is caused by the A/C because if I hit the button to disable the compressor (EATC mod) before I start the truck, it doesn't do it... ever. Your thoughts??

Sunday, I fixed my driver door window switch. Needed a shot of contact cleaner inside and some dielectric grease on the connector. Now my passenger side window works from the driver door switch again. Also removed my fancy wheels and tires and put on the boring stock "D" spoke wheels. I STARTED to replace the belt line window trim strips, but it turns out the ones I bought months ago are cheap a$$ed Chinese junk and are so soft I could bend them with my mind. There's $80 bucks wasted and I still need new ones. *sigh*

My Ranger is approaching 20 years old and the A/C is cool but not great.
