Road Atlanta is less than 2 miles from my house. I've done everything there from corner marshaling for WERA to working as a tire changer for a team to just pay&play/track days when I had my C4 Vette and my old 924 Porsche.
Plus, I'm a former track champion crew chief from across the street {Hwy53} at Lanier Speedway.
I was raised in a racing family, hence my love of the sport.  I love almost all racing...NHRA, NASCRAP, F1, Indy car.....I even like watching the manned slot cars...errrr...I mean Formula E cars. ;)

Pic....my 924 & I waiting to go on track @ Lanier for spectator racing.

#88 is a long time family racing # {my first 1/4 midget was #88...} and ran the #99 in memory of Greg Moore.

I had 4 of them back in the day.  Good ol' $300-$500 beaters {& potential rolling bomb....lol} that were cheap to own & on gas and fun to drive.
The one in the pic is from Pinto #4.....my old dirt car.  Ran it @ Winder-Barrow bullring.

LOL Me 2 my last one my girlfriends uncles put a 351 two 4 barrel carbs and c6 tranny. They draged race pintos back in the 70's. Took it down the track one time, pissed my pants and sold it before we left the track. 2 things would have happen, 1 lose my license or 2 get killed. My first was an 73 coupe and my second was a 76 hatchback.

I had one too back in the early 80's, a 1976 hatchback with a 2.8L V-6 & auto. It was a fun car to drive with the V-6.

That was the ESS package, did it have a full glass back hatch? I almost bought one new. Didn't want the $120 a month payment LOL

But this all belongs in the pinto thread LOL

Sorry about the unraveling of the thread....;)
One thing to point out tho....at least it shows we've been a :frd family! :rock

As for lil Red: going to go un-ass a bed full of garbage bags and wait to see what goodies today's mail might bring.

Threw in some white leds in the stock gauge cluster after replacing the speedo cable . I got a 92 Explorer cluster at the yard while getting the cable . But once I plugged everything up it went crazy lol . But I like the color scheme on the expo compared to the ranger so I'm going to rewire. Maybe get the stock tach working again . When I did the swap I wired it up but was a few hundred off on rpm . Love that every bulb on the truck is led except the headlights now . Down to ac/heat controls and glovebox

Grab handles are still holding up, very nicely in fact, using them more than i'd think.

Just got a steam cleaner (not a carpet cleaner) so i can clean the new ('06) seats i got before starting to retrofit them.

No sir, I had the entire back portion taped off. I didn't take a picture of the back but it's just like how it was in the previous page bare/sand casted aluminum.

I get it. The 3rd pic down is one of those "eye teasers" and looks as if it could be the inside. That's what I thought too when I first saw it, that it was the inside.

Nigel didn't see it because he took the picture, his brain knew already which position it was in.

It is a cool looking cover!

haha your right, after seeing that 3rd pic it does look  like the inside.lol  Nice optical illusion!

Sanding started with 600 gritt, the 800, 1000, 1200, 1500, then finshed with 2000.  It's in the oven now curing.  I will then polish the fins with mothers.  It's pretty smooth shiny now but I guess just for sake of making it so it doesn't oxidize too crazy the polish will help greatly.

I thought about clearing it but every time I have used VHT or duplicolor clear it ends up yellowing and or making the end product of color look different.

So far this is what it looks like.  It's in the oven now curing then I'll polish it up shortly.

Gah, yeah, optical illusion, and to top it off, if i'd looked at it a little longer, i would have seen it was the outside....

Anyway, looks really nice, i would never have chosen that colour but it seems to work on both parts you've used it on.

I'm guess I'm a young guy here...Pinto's were way out of style when I got my license back in 2000.

I did have a Dodge Neon as a teen though, I guess that's the modern equivalent to a Pinto.

People that had em loved them, people that didn't have them hated em!

No updates for the Ranger. Shocks, pre-keys and lift blocks are holding up well. Coming up on my first oil change soon. The 4.0 takes the same oil filter as my 4.6 Mustang.
