Forgot to post. But it is official.

The 8.8 axle I have is a limited slip. Spinny spin both the same way :-)

What was the door code on the expo?

https://ford-rangers.com/forum52/163-1.html

There should be a tag on the rear end too, on one of the screws on the cover. I don't have the tag info local but TRS and about a dozen other places have it on there.

So the door code read a LS 8.8 31 spline. 3.73 gears.
Axle tag reads the same.

But I am extremely skeptical and trust no one. So we spun the piece where the driveshaft meets the diff and both spun. So it is correct.

Also. This has been an expensive two weeks. Over 1k has been spent >_<

Drugs would be a much cheaper hobby than this. hahaha

I ordered $100 worth of powder for the upper a-arm, trac bars, mounts and odd ends, and the differential cover.

Plus ordered the manual for the transmission to rebuild. I have lotsss to doooo

Geez, that looks like a LOT of work! *dreading doing mine*
you know I got lucky and was able to back the 2 nuts off on the back of the hanger without too much fuss. I can say that pulling the 4 bolts and removing the bumper is worth the time an energy spent. I left my hitch on so 2 of the bumper bolts had to be removed with a wrench and hammer but still worth the extra visibility for sure! I'll let you know if I'm still saying that when I try to reinstall the bumper with the hitch still on though  :fp

Did you do this before or did the PO replace those? This is the second time around since they are not born with bolts. Looks like he might have gone cheap usually by the time the shackles toast the second time the frame is toast too and yours looks normal.

I'm not sure what happened with this thing TBH. I've owned it since 2006 and never done this before. It is kind of strange that half the shackle hanger was bolted and half was rivets. Especially since the other side was 4 rivets. Either way they are both off now and both rear bushings have been cooked out of the springs. The parts I linked earlier were WRONG (too big) so I have hopefully ordered the correct parts now and will see when they get delivered...

@Hawk136439:  I went to Amazon to toss those into my wish list for later, and it said it didn't fit my 2003 EDGE.  I thought: I would have bet the 2006 and 2003 would be the same (they LOOKED right).  I then looked for some to fit my truck and struck out.  At any rate, I will just get them at RockAuto as I originally planned to do.

The new parts should be here Thursday. If they are correct I will send you the link. I ordered hangers and shackles with all hardware and bushings so fingers crossed I can have the truck back on the ground this weekend and ready for an alignment. I'll also be transferring the 285/75R16 tires from my Xterra to the ranger so that should look a little better too!

Welp. Monday morning I attempted to weld my new leaf springs mounts onto the 8.8

After 2-3 hours of welding, grinding, more welding. Using both our stick and MIG welder.

Our welders weren't getting hot enough to make a good bead, and since this will have my life depending on it, I did not want to do this half-butt.

The boyfriend is driving my truck to the shop today to drop the 8.8 rear end off with the mounts and tabs, along with gears and axle bearings. Somethings I want a professional to do. Plus I know the guys that own this shop and said it'd be about $350-$400 to do the work. So I am not going to complain, considering I have had other shops quote me from $600-$1,000.

And I trust these boys more than anyone else with my pride and joy.

I cannot wait to drive the truck with the 5.13!!

Also, finally discovered the hop I am having under acceleration. I literally watched my pinion go upward and the truck basically hop forward. (Had the boyfriend drive while I watched).
So traction bars are a must and I will be dropping those off, along with upper arms and 7lbs of powder at the same shop for a nice coat of pink powdercoat to keep the parts nice and durable.

Truck build is getting good. Next purchase I am inbetween whether I want to do that 64" Chevy leaf spring swap, or just buy a set of Deaver Springs for $650.... hmmm decisions decisions..

I haven't run a bead of weld in probably 40 years... and I wasn't very good at it then.  Good call on the professional to do the work 'cause... your life matters!

Well, the boyfriend drove the truck to the shop.

My boys inspected it. They said they are glad I am getting the new beefy 31 spline Explorer axle.

My axle was twisting so bad that the leaf springs were lose and you could wiggle it with your hand...

Those 35s destroyed my 7.5"

I could easily believe that!  The 7.5" isn't all that robust.

Unfortunately, it is not. I laugh when I see pictures of the rear end of my truck with those puny axle tubes.
The thing I am most excited for is the disc brake conversion... That is going to be the biggest benefit.

Gonna order the slotted and drilled power stops this week from Summit once I get paid. :)

I am smart with my money luckily. :)

I get paid weekly, which is awesome. And I make decent money for a 19 year old.

But I spend all my spare money I have on my truck or my dirt bike. At least since this quarantine started. I am not buying makeup or clothes. Just truck parts (way better anyways)

Makeup washes off, truck parts don't! LOL  Yeah, you seem to be pretty level-headed, but I couldn't resist poking a little fun your way. :-)

To be honest. I never would leave ya guys. Because while Facebook is good. And there can be some good information...

There are a lot of idiots.. For example today.. guy posted a video of his AC clutch pulley spinning and then stopping. Which is NORMAL!

His comment/caption was "my power steering pulley stops, is this normal?"

I had the biggest facepalm ever. It was NOT the "power steering pulley" haha

But I love you guys. I love the information you give off. I stepped away because I wasn't doing much to the truck. But I made it a goal to make the v8 in the truck within the next year..

Also, most of the Facebook guys are 17 year old, extremely white, high school boys whom put 20x12s and street tires on their squatted rangers because their daddy didn't buy them a full size truck.. Sooooo..

Not my cup of tea personally..

Eddie would be correct!  You, young lady, have a butt load of work to do with all these parts you're getting.  Yes... pics please!

Oh I know. The axle was dropped off yesterday. I am going by there tonight to drop off the upper control arms and traction bars and the mounts, along with powdercoat to become pink :)

I received the full service manual for the AODE/4R70W transmission, so that will be the next monster once the rear end is completed... Rebuilding that and getting the manual valve body, along with the ratchet shifter.. Summit has one for $330 that is technically for the mustangs, but they came with the 4r70w, so it should bolt up. At least, according to the Explorer guys I been reading into.
