With extra time during the week I caught the Ranger up on maintenance. I noticed the passenger side tire are much more worn than the driver side.   I have a LS third member where it will chirp the rear tires in corners. I think that is the passenger side is worn more by sliding around on corners. I will be needing new rubber in 5 or 6k miles.

This is the second set of Goodyear Wranglers I have had on the truck. The set prior to these had a more aggressive tread. These are Wrangler  SR-A's and I am fairly sure the prior set were not SR-A.  The current set are quieter than the previous set. They also break loose with any moisture on the road. These are also supposed to be a 50k mile tire and I will be pushing it to get 40k out of them. The last set were a 45k tire that lasted just over 46k.

I will not be putting Wranglers back on the truck. I do go off road on hard pack trails on occasion and even though the Wranglers were a street tire I never had any problems in the woods. I have listed tires available. I have omitted some that I will not run.

goodyear wranglers yuck
I have not been happy with them for the last 5-7 years or so. We ran several sets of The old MTR but they had balance issues and when the kevlar version came out the balance issues got even worse.
The wal mart bought goodyears that alot of my clients and trucks I purchased came with were not good, they simply do not hold up.
These wranglers just do not last very long on the street
I switched away from goodyears, turns out you get one good year

Only good thing I have to say about Goodyear is the 35's that are currently on my Bronco II are simply awesome in the deep snow and ice...... that's where it ends, otherwise they wear out way faster then other MT tires we have around here.

I would go with Cooper from that list so that's what I voted.

Not on your list but should be - Hercules Terra Trac A/T II's.

https://www.herculestire.com/tire-details/Hercules/Terra-Trac-AT-II

I loved these tires had them on my XJ, and then moved them to my B4000, Great off road tracking, great street traction and can be had for a really good price.

I voted for the Coopers, we have the Discoverer A/T3's on my Ranger & on my wife's Explorer Sport, the Discoverer HT's on our 08 Escape, & the Cooper Cobra Radial GT's on my 69 Mustang Coupe.

You are looking for a Street Tire, I'm not familiar with them... but I would look into the BF Goodrich Tires in general.

I ran BFG's on my Stangs, and then went to BFG ATs for the truck, tried the MTRs but too much trouble, to me... my choice, BFG's !

I know thy are not on the list but just my opinion.

I had a set of BF Goodrich AT 35's on a 78 4x4 F100 that were great tires. Ideal for the loamy sand of south Georgia. When I moved up to Atlanta 26 years ago I found that they would load with the north Georgia red clay and I ended up with a set of Super Swampers that were so-so.

The tires listed are the tires from the 3 local shops that I will do business with. I will not buy anything from Walmart or items like tires from the warehouse clubs. The three businesses are local owned franchises. I want to stay with the stock size as I don't want the hassle of re-calibrating my speedometer. If I had a 4x4 I would go larger but with a 2wd stock size works.

But I also just got the April e-sales email from one of the tire stores and the Dunlop Grandtrek SJ6 just jumped to the top of the list as the price dropped to less than $100 per tire installed. It also has the most aggressive tread as it is a touring winter rated tire. The other thing about the selected tires is that the price range goes from $80ish to $140ish per tire installed.   The crappy Wrangler's were about $135 a tire 3 years ago when I got them.

I'm not voting due to lack of knowledge. I used to think Michelin was the greatest till I put a brand new set on the front of my Dad's 06 fusion and they dry rotted in less than 2 years. I bought some medium end coopers for the wifes CRV seems to be holding so far only 3-4,000 miles though.

I can't say enough about the BFG's and milage.

I used to run them on my Mustangs and got great milages, along with some great burnouts.

The ATs wear like steel but for some reason people avoid BFGs, nor sure why !

I didn't vote because I have been using Truck Tires for ssssoooo long I don't know the tires posted.

Sorry if that's a PITA  !

Ltr

p.s. IF you really want people to VOTE on this, link each tire to a description !

I cheated and voted for two of the selections; Cooper Cobras and the Hankook Kinergy ST.  I own both... the Coopers are my summer tires on fancy wheels, the Hankook are my winter tires on OEM D spoke wheels.  I really like the looks of the Coopers, whereas the Hankooks (I think) have better traction on wet pavement/snow.  To be fair, I have only driven the Coopers in snow one time.  It was an early snow (a couple of inches) and honestly, the truck was helpless as a hog on ice.  So, if you plan to run these tires all year long, I would go with the Hankook Kinergy tires.

P.S.  The Hankook tires ride VERY good and seem to be wearing evenly with inflation at 32-35 psi.

The  COOPER COBRA RADIAL GT and  HANKOOK KINERGY ST H735 tied at three each.  The Dunlop Grandtrek have been discontinued - I guess that is why they were on sale.

My front tire is almost smooth with the other three tires showing enough thread to go another 10k. I am going to baby it for another week to see if the Cobra or Kinergy go on sale at the first of next month. I am leaning more towards the Cooper Cobra.

Tony, check out Discount Tire Direct on line I purchased the Cooper Cobra Radial GT's that are on my 69 Mustang, & the Cooper Discoverer A/T-3's that are on my wife's 99 Explorer Sport & my 2000 Ranger. They are always running sales & Cooper at times is usuallt running a sale. When I got the Coopers for my Ranger & my wife's Explorer Discount Tire had a sale & Cooper was offering a discount also. You just have to have a tire shop install them.

Tony, bear in mind that the Cooper Cobras don't come in a 75 series, so your speedo will be off a little bit.

That's good because the stock size is 225/70R15.  I think the 04 Ranger is one of the few vehicles requiring that size.  I have thought about bumping the size but I didn't want the hassle of re-calibrating the spedo.

Tsquare,

When you do decide to order... always ask about discounts.
One thing I have found out here in SoCal, "If you don't ask, you don't get" !

Almost every store I purchase from, including the Web, they either have a Military Discount or if not, the give something off !

Are you sure about that? I've never seen a Ranger 2000 or newer with tires smaller than 235 75R 15.

Quite sure on the size.

Scrambler82, I have confirmed I can get a 10% military discount but I was holding out for the $ 50 or $70 cash back from the manufacturer. That would get the Cooper's down in the low $300's or the Hankook's in the high $300's.  I am a cheap SOB.

I would have already bought them but I just got hit with a $300 repair bill on the ElectraGlide - my tuner went Tango Uniform. It was a replacement for another tuner that died March a year ago.  I was one month out of warranty and my mechanic got them to honor the warranty and upgraded me to their newest product at a highly discounted price. Basically $150 for new tuner and $150 labor. It is half of what I was expecting  but I need a paycheck to hit before I have another cash outflow.
