I was looking through the "Ranger Parts on eBay.
Came across two things, one being an actual Ford part, the larger Ford Oval, 9 x 3.5 inches, and two is a China part but so be it, it is the Raptor Letters fro a T-6 Ranger.

So here is where I stand.   I have the Early Bronco Lettering that I used in the past, they are OK but a little too small for my thinking now.   Then there is the LARGE 9x3.5 Oval, there is one that has a camp type US Flag in the background and FORD in RED Script and a thin line red oval... I like the appearance but thinking it is too large for the Ranger Grill area.   AND third but not least is some China made Ranger Raptor Lettering, waiting for sizes from the manufacture, these look good on the new Ranger (which I will never buy) and in the pictures on the web but I still need the sizes.

What do you guys and Ladies think ?

Scrambler, you left off option four: leave it the way it is. LOL

I've never been a big fan of the alternative color Ford logos.  Ford makes them blue, and Ford blue is the way they should be (in my opinion).  The large 9" oval would be way too big and would look out of place.  The Bronco lettering -=OR=- the Raptor lettering wouldn't match the badging font on the rest of the truck, again, looking out of place.

I, being the opinionated b@$tard that I am, would leave it as it is, or maybe go with a badge delete, but that has its own set of problems to contend with.

At the end of the day, it is your truck and your tastes, which will be different from others.  It really is just what YOU want to do and not what others (like me) think. :)

I happen to really like the 01-03 grille that is why I changed over from the 2000 grille & lights to the 01 grille & head lights. I would leave it as is, maybe just repaint the grille black if needed.

I'm curious over a new badge, but only because mine isn't in the best condition anymore, however without *seeing* the other options, i can't comment on them, and would sway with mhoward in maybe leaving it stock.

Mike69, with you changing to the same grille as i have, i (again) really want to know how you mounted your spots, i'm right at that stage now and it looks a little iffy, any pics?

Howard, Mike69,

Yes and yes and yes ! I think that covers it !
I too think it will be my choice in the end, but it is good to hear what others think and it allows me a new line of thinking.  Did that make sense ?

I had the Early Bronco red lettering on the '03 OEM Grill, which I have always thought as a nice looking grill but I wanter a change.  The OEM Grill has too much of a curve in it to add anything to it without a PITA mod so I decided a Tube Grill would be flatter, so I purchased a Black Tube Grill which is sitting there waiting for my decision on the Lettering.

I like the larger Oval but agree it is too big and might stick out too much and the Lettering... the EB lettering is too small and yes it doesn't match the Ranger Font on the side so there is a trade off there.

The Raptor Lettering is still up in the air, first pending the size report and second as you said the Font.

There is actually two more options, one is leave it, new Ford Oval, maybe a Red Oval, but that isn't me, I cant leave things alone.  The second of the "more options" is make FORD Lettering using the EDGE Font, or the Ranger Font, either will take time to order, send in the font and hope they turn out as well as the Raptor Lettering from the web.

OK too much thinking going on here but I am who I am... !

Right now it is a plain Tube Grill, I need something RED, E4 RED that is, to put in the middle of it !

Thanks for posting.[size="4" style="color: rgb(51, 102, 51);"]

I fully understand what you mean by "I can't leave things alone".  That seems to be to be a common disease shared by the majority of the members here (myself included). LOL

Actually, I had not taken into consideration that your truck is E4.  With that in mind, a standard size badge substituting RED for BLUE might work well with the black tube grill. :)

Yup, one of my Wife's biggest complaints !

Thx for the comments and I will take your opinion into consideration and try the original oval inlace to see the fitment !

Was it Buggman who make the red badges ?

Yes, I think Terry does the recolored badge thing. He can probably even back-light it with LEDs so you could wire it up like a running light. Give him a shout! :)

You have to be careful with that. In GA if you put a red or blue light anywhere on a vehicle it needs to light up when you crank up the vehicle. If you have the ability to turn a blue light on and off you will get a ticket from the cops.  It used to be a $75 ticket.:?

The exception for red lights are marker lights.

Maxx, This is the only pic I took when I installed them. My Ranger did not have the additional duct that attaches to the header panel. I drilled holes in the top of the header panel slipped the stud of the lights through & bolted them from the top. I also made brackets to stiffen up the spot where I mounted the lights. Maybe when it gets a little warmer I can take better pics.

Haha, then it must be true :D

Mike, thanks for the lights info, I obviously do have that ducting, so access to solid frame isn't there right now, I'll keep working at it.

Yes, one should ALWAYS check local and state laws/regulations when doing mods.  Especially lighting, exhaust, lifts and wheels/tires.  Thanks for bringing that up, Tony!

I am not one for extra colored lighting on the front of the vehicle, the LEDs behind the Oval is not for me, maybe extra amber warning lights or DRL Lighting or even the Marker Lighting on the Visor isn't too bad !    I am trying to get a set of Projector Headlights setup too with DLR LEDs !  Too many things I want to do !

Now back to the Grille !
I'm going to cut out a templet of the large oval, 9 x 3.5 inches, and see what it looks like !
The Raptor lettering guy from eBay has not responded about the size yet; that could change things !

Pictures of the behind the grille lighting would be helpful... ?

I've done a ton of custom ovals, but i can only mod the 4 1/2", 4 3/4", 5 3/4" & 7" wide old two piece style.

I have a bunch of the smaller ones, but the old 5 3/4" & 7" are nearly impossible for my junkyard hunters to find... don't think I've got one of the larger ones in 3 or 4 years.

I probably have some 9" ovals (stock color) around here somewhere too.

There is another option, being a "minimalist" lol if I modify my grillllll I would leave it blank. No branding at all.

When I finally get the 5.0 ranger going there will not be a 5.0 sticker on it anywhere.

I even dislike the "4X4 OFF ROAD" sticker on my bed. That's just me.

I understand it but I'm kinda weird. Like advertising, if you notice there are no rotating google banners or ads inserted between the first and the rest of the posts, none of those slow moving popups that cover the things you are trying to read.

I like the no label look too but sometimes I get something in my head and need to follow through to see what it will look like.  Sometimes I throw it to the side and may or may not come back to it !

I do like the '03 Ranger Side Label and if I get a 5.0L installed I would like 5.0 added to it.
The grillE, needs something, not sure what just a little something; that's where the Ovals come in.

Just got the e-mail back from the Raptor Lettering Shop in China, the letters are 7 or 8 inches wide, each. Four letters are too wide, so I need to either make some myself or come up with a Font and get someone else to do it ! Wasn't really my first choice, didn't like the Font.

So now I have different options:

1) Large Ovals, 9" x 3.5" or 7", leaning this way but the 9" Oval is BIG !

2) Make my own lettering, not too easy, and getting a small piece of Plexiglass might cause me some problem, maybe a lot.

3) Leave the new Tube Grille bare, just the tubes; another good thought but just looks like something was left out !

4) Go back to the '03 OEM Grille, not my favorite option seeing it is already out and the new tube grille is already to be put inlace.

Also, thanks for the assists, good advice, and good ideas, and I will post the findings of the 9" vs the 7" Oval check.

Terry,

HELP !Picture OVERLOAD !   To many pictures of Ovals from the web without enough information... !

Does any of the 9" or 7" Ovals, have a bolt nut type of mounting to the grille ?

Everything I see on the Web/eBay has Plastic Studs for alignment and adhesive to hold the Oval in place.
The adhesive may be a problem, unless I make an aluminum plate to go under the Oval.

Why do I get these ideas ?

When I finally get the 5.0 ranger going there will not be a 5.0 sticker on it anywhere.

I even dislike the "4X4 OFF ROAD" sticker on my bed. That's just me.

I understand it but I'm kinda weird. Like advertising, if you notice there are no rotating google banners or ads inserted between the first and the rest of the posts, none of those slow moving popups that cover the things you are trying to read.

Nothing weird about that.  I would bet that if you took a poll, NOBODY would vote to have rotating, flashing, cover-what-you're-reading ads.  Makes me wonder, does anybody buy a product or service because of one of those irritating ads? Some TV commercials irritate me SO badly, that I refuse to buy the product, even if it looks like something I could use.
