My buddies Jeep had the same issue (I know it's not a Ranger) and it was missing a spacer like you all mentioned in here before. His solution (temporary) was to buy a set of those small stick on cabinet door bumpers from the hardware store and stick one on there. I'm sure eventually the heat/cold will make it come off, but it fixes it until he can order the neoprene spacer that's supposed to be there.
I've also heard of people welding a washer or a nut on there that way you'll never have an issue with it again.
