So on our green 2000 (now my sons truck) he claims he can't blow the horn.

I check it, fuse is OK, relay clicking, 12V going to the horn wire.... no beep.

I don't think I've ever seen a horn go out. I've heard then start sounding squeaky and squished but they always seem to work.

Has anyone ever seen an actual horn just give up?

I don't know about US horns but UK ones usually have permanent live to the horn and the button/relay connects the earth side.

Either way I would check for a good earth as well as power to the horn.

The entire frame/body is earth, the horn's other contact (negative, earth, ground..) is to the horn body and grounded via the screw that holds it to the frame. Hot or positive is switched with a relay.

Pretty sure the relay is hot and the horn button completes the circuit to ground.

So either the horn is just burned out or the connection to the frame is rusted. Ordered a 9 dollar horn from Rock Auto, I'll play with the old one when I get it out might be that ground to the horn frame.

I just have never seen one go out. The world of Rangers is an unusual one.

Thanks guys, I'll post the results. Hopefully the new horn doesn't sound like an early VW beetle or a civic.

The white one I stripped last year had a very large train horn type device. I sent it to the junk yard, I don't need a sonic head splitter of a horn.

When I got squished on the Expressway back in August 2023, it damaged one of the horns (mine was a dual-note horn). It sounded like Peewee Herman with only one horn working. Do yourself a favor and buy a dual-note horn!
