I feel you, coming from Colorado i have dealt with ca style emissions my whole life.
The last year of the 5.0 was 2001 in California with a referee you would not want to put a 01 engine into an 03 it is not a legal swap
You could do a coyote, ls, Ecoboost, or even 4.6 and keep it all legal like
Or get a 98-01 ranger and stuff the 302 in there?
I am sure you know all of this alreadyemissions sucks ass!! Like we don't do enough already.. and then one forest fire or one train wreck into a river and all our careful emissions compliance is like pale in comparison to these disasters if they took the emissions program funding and put it towards fire fighting we would all be better off imo
I understand what is needed but as you said not much of any way around it !
I was more thinking out loud to see what is happening.
MA was easy, I knew where to go, drive it in leave it for a hour and Wham Bam all done; AND didn't cost more than a standard sticker.
If you got in good with the owner, sometime it didn't cost anything but a 30 pack and some time to sit and have a have a couple.
CA, another story all together, sometime I even wonder why I moved out here, I kind of miss the snow too !
Way back... there was none of this , we took engine from the largest cubic inches vehicles, and got the power we wanted in cubic inches.
