I replaced my valve cover gaskets, took me a couple of days since I could only work on it from right after work till dinner time. Wife has been sick, so I had to take care of kids and dinner, but the valve covers were just dumping oil so had to get it done... anyways, everything went pretty smooth, got things back together no problems, but now... my engine dies the moment I try to start it. I try to keep it running with my foot on the gas, but unless I'm revving up, it just dies.

going to take it apart tomorrow, but before I do, what should I be looking for in my mistakes?

Before you tear it apart look and make sure all the sensors you unplugged are plugged back in. Is that a 4.0 or 3.0? Sounds like a stuck IAC

4.0, I'm going to go out and check in an hour. yeah, the idle air valve would make sense, since it just dies. A vacuum leak wouldn't do that would it? massive misfire and all that, but it would still run and not just die immediately.

Figured it out. the rear most double-d gasket on the upper intake came loose when installing, and so it had left a big air gap I couldn't see because it was on the back by the firewall.

Cool glad you figured it out, a vacuum leak that big you would probably hear it if you didn't have to be inside the cab to keep it running!

Take a pic of the old gasket after you install the new so we can avoid doing this!

I hate when that happens. I helped my neighbor with his V6 3.5L  Chevy last summer. It started off with the starter not working. The starter was soaked with engine oil as he had oil and coolant leaks all over the 110k mile engine. A new starter fixed the no start problem. We ended up replacing the air intake and rocker cover gaskets. When we put it back together one of the rocker cover gaskets folded over on the bottom side. It puked new oil all over the newly cleaned engine. It was obvious what had happened and another $28 for a rocker cover gasket fixed our screw-up.
