Well first does the lever take you to the right place? If you are happy with the lever action there is a little plastic thumb screw under the dash you can move that thing all over. If the lever is unpredictable there is a couple more things you should look at.

No, pull the seat all the way back, follow steering column under. You will see where the cable hooks to a little lever driven by the big lever. follow it back to where it has one screw that attaches a block to the column. Thumb screw is about there.

If you can't find it right away I can take a pic.

I removed the plastic panel underside of the dash below the steering column. If you put your head under the column ( mine was white) it looks like an old radio tuner dial.

Here is an image of an explorer prndl adjuster. It is in the upper right side of the picture. It's the black piece sandwiched between 2 white things. Lol just above the off white box. You adjust it just like tuning an old radio. Sometimes these are broken from throwing it into park too hard or fast. If yours is broken you can zip tie them together for a temp fix
