Soo I'm finally gearing up to fix the timing chain noise on my 2006 2.3 duratec. Long story short it ran low on oil ONCE... I've searched the webz and gotten some info but just wanted to clear some stuff up.

1 I've seen some threads for a upgraded tensioner but really could find a lead to one for sale
2 should I stick with oem ford parts or (if I can, get a “upgraded” kit. should I go with it?)
3 can I replace the bearing the fan clutch rides on? It's not making noise but while the cover is off I'd like to replace it for good measure.

It's so tempting to find a either 2.0 or 2.3 ecoboost and swap it in. It's been a idea but I'm pumping the brakes since I'm gona be doing a 5.0 swap soon.

I'm also tempted to make a new thread just for us to discus the ecoboost swap.

The 1.6L Ecoboost is a 190 hp engine. I had one in my Fusion and it got 37 mpg on the highway. If you put your foot in it it dropped to 20 but had V8 power.

I really like the 2.0 since it makes like 237 hp! In a 5 speed reg cab short bed, it would be a rocket ship!

I got to looking on rock auto, they sell melling and cloyes chain/tensioner/guide kits with out  sprockets. Should I replace the sprockets even tho it's a low mileage motor (75k~ miles)? And they are asking on some of the kits if it's a 138 link chain, would anyone know how many the ranger is?

Ecoboost comes with an 8speed auto. Why not use that or the 10r80 if you're going to do the EcoBoost swap. 8 or 10 speed auto would keep you in the powerband....
