I've been gone a few months... sorry! School got more demanding, and as soon as I finished the semester I started working 10 - 12 hour days. Good pay check but no time for truck repair! Unfortunately that means River is still in the same state as the last picture.

On a brighter note, I gathered lots of parts and new doors, so I have everything I need now except a rust free Passenger fender.

Because of a better paycheck, River has also turned into a full blown project. First is paint, then body assembly, and then a motor swap never before done on a Ranger (If I can pull it off!)

Speaking of which, I got all the parts but the engine and the transmission adapter plate for that swap today.

So yeah, I'm not dead, just overworked and planning Rivers return.

ooooooh something never done before in a ranger! Interesting since pretty much anything that can be done has been done in a Ranger!

Keep up the hard work, it pays off!
really looking forward to seeing you put this poor ranger back together, I LOVE the Mazda beds

It's been way too long since I've updated this, and sadly it's because there are no updates yet to share. Every dollar I've been earning has been going to fuel a meaningless relationship, or to pay for college, so when parts come along I am unable to afford them. With the few instances that needed parts have become available (At this point a front right fender rust free and no fender flares, 03+ 4x4 knuckles, and a donor car for my engine swap) they are swapped up before I can get them.

During this time where everything is shut down, I would love to be with my truck to finish stripping it down, cleaning the frame, etc. but the place where it is stored is shut down to me as the family there is quarantined due to the beer virus. So I am still planning on a rebuild, I just need time, money, and parts.

Sorry to see you run into so many roadblocks, but chin up, the time will come when everything comes together!

Haha yeah, I'm no stranger to roadblocks and setbacks. If you ever think otherwise, just read this build thread again! I'll keep looking forward, drawing out my plans, and preparing for the day I have my Couch-Truck back. So don't mind me, I'm just waiting for the last Tetris block that clears the mess in my way.

The FX4 Parts look good, did you get the Trans/Transfer Case Shift Bezel, that is a hard one to find.
The Shifter and Manual T/C will be nice.

The Engine the has not made it into a Ranger, let see I have heard of a 7.2 Power Stroke and a 4BT diesel, a lot of the 5.0L-W, and a few 5.4L Tritons, there was a Trucks Show that had the 5.0, or was that a 4.6 4 valve, and I have seen a 460 Big Block; I think you have my attention.
As Jamie said, there aren't too many that haven't been done !

Will be waiting to hear and see the pictures, good luck !

Hmmm... 350 Chevy small block?  426 Hemi?  Cummins diesel?  Possibilities!

The Small Block Chebby I have heard of, the Hemi, a new one maybe but the old real HEMI... too much weight, the Cummins, I mentioned the 4BT Diesel, that's a Cummins.
A 6BT Cummins, again too big, too heavy, a 440 Dodge too big, a 318 Dodge, that could be done, a 5.7L Hemi, I would like to see that... inteeresting !

I hope it is interesting, I'm waiting to see and read about it.

Have a good one !

Ya'll forgot about the VW diesel transplants. There is an early 90's standard cab running around north Atlanta. He has the VW logo replacing the blue oval in the grill. It has been tuned as it hauls a$$ and sounds like a farm tractor but with a whine. I have been looking at tdconversions.com/ford as I found a VW Jetta diesel with 170k on it that has a solid drivetrain but the sheet metal in the is dented and the interior is very worn. With the doner engine the kit runs just under $2k and requires fabrication skills.

Yes tha tis one that got suggested to me once I was looking at the Cummins 2.8R Diesel.
Forgot two fathom Diesels.
The VW Diesel should push a Ranger along easily; the Wife drove a Passet with the VW Diesel, the Caris a good sized sedan and it went right along.
I wonder what it would cost for the VW Diesel and can it be modified to get a little more power.
OH ya, the Wife got 40+ MPG in that car... !

So many motors out there can fit, wondering what is in the bag !

The Shifter and Manual T/C will be nice.

I got almost everything from that truck, however the bezel was thrown as was the RCM cover. I'm not at all worried or upset about that though, for two reasons:

1. They are cheaply made and very fragile, so even if it wasn't broken, it would be soon.

2. I want cupholders / storage space.

My Plan: Create a similar looking setup out of aluminum with a cover for the RCM and storage space in between. More costly, but better looking in the long run.

As for the powerhouse I have in mind, as much as I want to outright say what it is, drop some cryptic hints, or something else along those lines, I want to make sure I can actually acquire a running parts vehicle first. Then the hints will be dropping like flies! I've talked about my plan to great lengths with many people to make sure it can be done, since I NEED a manual transmission, but we finally have an idea that works!

Lol while it may fit, it may also blow up the Ranger tranny I plan on using, so probably not!

I think that's the only hint I'll give for now :-P

Ranger Transmission... definitely reduces the choices.

Maybe a Turbo'd 4-cylinder, 500 HP, ? Torque !
