Well it been a lil bit since I've been on . Been busy with the builds and work life . So for a lil update . I made a metal back/side rail setup for the flatbed . Along with some wood sides . Was all made from scrape square metal 2” fence post . Bought some 2” plugs to cap all the open ends closed . Which is not in the pic but installied today

Also modded the expo traction bars I installied to get more pinion angle out back . Still had wheel hop and measure angle and realized I need to go more negative . Bought a set of civic camber arms for $22 and hacked them up for the turnbuckles . Turnbuckles just them selfs go for $35 a piece for 1/2 thread . So I knew I could find something with buckles already for cheaper and get two like I needed

Did it eliminate the wheel hop? I'm sure you tested it :)

This thing is awesome! Quick question: What do the slapper bars do? Sorry if that's really dumb but I would have thought they did the same thing as the traction bars.

The slapper bars are considered traction bars also. When in acceleration if you are looking at the drivers side the rear axle will twist clockwise, the rubber buts up against the front of the leaf spring in my opinion effective eliminating the front half of the spring and making it solid avoiding any more twist.

I had a pontiac astre (vega by pontiac) with a 231 V6 out of a skylark I believe. I ripped the control bar mounts out of the unibody and had to weld new ones in... added the "slapper" bars and the wheel hop went away.

Then I welded the spider gears but that's another story :)

Par on Jim . I may have went a lil over kill lol . But now I can adjust out pinion angle with the top setup way easier then having to shim , and be able to do it without having to jack it up . The slappers stopped the roll out altogether . Couldn't  have imagined the difference it truly made til I ripped it last night before I left work

It was 100% on my astre also, so much I got in trouble the next day at school filling the parking lot with smelly white rubber smoke. On the one tire that would spin. That's why I welded the spider gears the next weekend :)

Front runner rubber . 235/50/15 Toyo R888R 's  . Mounted to the 15x10's of course First time running a semi slick for dd/drift but I hear good things . $350 shipped for for the pair . Let's. Hope that front end grabs a lil more this round . Here's what they look like . Wife ask me why theres no tread , and if that's safe 😈💨 burnt up the last of my spare 15's and had to throw on the crown Vic's again... just to have another flat 🤦‍♂️

This is really cool!
You still need help with your tachometer?
You can use the tachometer head from a FSB in your gauge cluster and it will read proper with V8 and fit the cluster like stock

I love the ranger flatbed~!~ seriously anything one off from the norm (like you) gets me workin on trucks (inspired)

Would not mind seeing that 87 Mazda either...rx7 for the win

Yeah I often think about that mazda also, might want to post a little when you have time in the other projects thread. Especially the HX50 part :)

I'm actually this week pulling the motor out of the 7 . Got a new keg that I'm about to build up with a bigger port , rework the turbo manifold for a larger wastegate if not two . Big plans are in the works this build . Like to hit a rock solid 18-24 psi . That's in a high compression setup mind you . So more compression, less boost (then low comp) , more fuel ,equals very scary lol I miss driving him . Like apart of me has been put on hold . But not for long 😈💨 and all from a lil 1.3l . Should be good for 420-450ish whp. And in a 2400 car should   and get ðŸ¼

Yes yes that's a fast little SOB
My dad had a 88 Turbo II for a while holy cow what a powerhouse...he had some goodies on it
He sold it to get a 96 Supra turbo back in 94 or so...
He always wished for the convertible with the turbo like they sold overseas to come to US, have to build it yourself I would tell him :)

Go a little wider. A half inch overhang on the wheel will allow for wider wheels when you decide to go that route.

You know you will eventually.

That's what I'm thinking . I posted on the what did you do today thread to see what others like yourself think so far . I'm going to make some relief cuts and pull everything out more . If not then I cut the fenders in half and weld in a strip about 1.5 to 2” . It's crazy cause the rear axle being a expo brings the axle out 1.5 almost both sides . So now I'm to the point of either finding stock ranger flares for up front or going custom made from universals and going the riveted/bolted look and goin with 1” spacers atleast

Hey man do you have and pictures of the under framing of your flatbed and maybe some dimensions? Mostly length, width and maybe where you started your taper in the back? Love the flat bed and would love to mimic yours but I want to make sure I can still throw a dirtbike back there.
