I'll have to sell some major things to support this build, but I'm as excited as a kid in a candy store.

I thought I was buying it from Jesºs (pronounced Hey-soos) but as it turns out he is the guy that owns the construction company the guy I bought it from works for. I go up to the door and knock. This mexican dude opens the door and comes out. I shook his hand and said "Jim" he says "Chewy". I have a good friend in California that goes by Chewy, his name is Julio Garcia so I was familiar with the twist.

So the new truck becomes The jalape±o.

Really nice guy, he had just put brand new tires on it. I hopped in it and it started right up, sounds great. Went forward, went reverse, no problem.
No smoke, no liquid coming out the back. He says if you take it around the block it starts bucking and dies. Let it sit for a while and it starts back up.

A little rust under driver door, none under passenger door, none on cab corners, a little on the radiator support.

Less than 140K, nice :)

I was going to pop a hub cap off and check for vacuum hubs but it would not have made a difference the thing was in every bit as good shape as I had imagined.

Has a dent on the tailgate. Not a big deal being I have 3 X 2000 amazon green metallic rangers.

I think it is real close to being driveable as is. Going to forscan the codes and see what Mr. computer says.

The future? I have some ideas I'll stew on it for a day and then make my master plan known to the public.

Last but not least, the door tag.

Was able to get a tow dolly, once again picking up a Geo metro LOL.

By about 6 PM it will be at work where I'll scan it with forscan then if that doesn't tell the tale I am going to drive it around the parking lot till it does whatever it is that it does when it dies. I got this :)

Nothing but good news

Looks like they had an argument:

YAY no vacuum hubs

And the forscanning:

So far I know the cam position sensor is bad or was put on wrong, reads "High/Low/High/Low" I took a vid and will upload it tonight.

Looks like there is a problem with the connection on the drivers seat for the air bag, maybe the pre tensioner is messed up. It did have an accident.

Thing drives tight, has plenty of power. 4W low and high work fine. I didn't want to take it too far in case the cam synch was questionable. Probably just going to replace the whole thing.

2000 rangers did not have pretensioners. Try changing the just the latch. They had an extra wire for the airbag

I don't know at this point which one would win. That is the peppiest 3.0 I have ever driven. Even with a bad cam sensor.

Here is the vid:

What kind are they? I'll see how much 2 more would be.

I'll be a while chasing codes. Have to get a cam synch first. I have heard there are horror stories from not using ford parts, but the only one I have ever replaced was from Advance, it was only 40 bucks and it is still working in the truck it is in like 20000 miles later.

Richporter cam synchros work okay for the $$$$
I have some trucks around that have been running them for a couple of years. They sell the RP synchros under a few different names.....I would go cheap since you are just gonna yank the 3.0

Nice find!!

When I google richporter cam sensors I get a summit ad:

Spectra Premium Camshaft Synchronizers FD32

* Designed and produced under a strict TS16949 quality control process
* All sensors are tested at 100 cycles of thermal shock (-50 to 300° F) for durability under extreme vibration
* 24-hour salt-spray test to ensure sensors provide high corrosion resistance
* 100 percent tested to meet OE specifications
* Matched for excellent engine management integration

What would thermal shock have to do with vibration?

I am so in love with this truck already it is ridiculous. I go back every day and drive it around the parking lot.

Bought the cam synch today, if I put it in tomorrow I'll be driving it for a few days to see how many little things I have to fix before the big things. Big things like deciding if I want to switch V8 projects or just do 2.

Richporter sells them in many different boxes
It sounds like they submit the synchro to super temperature changes while its vibrating....hmmmm sounds a little perverted no?

4.6L is HUGE
With that said there is a 2004 Aviator up here for sale, 4.6L 4 Valve cobra mustang engine in those......I keep thinking I gotta do a 4.6 conversion eventually eh?

Just an update due to one of the issues being in another thread.

With help from this forum it was discovered that the Restraint Control Module had been replaced with one out of an explorer that needed different sensors. I happened to have a RCM from a 2000 ranger and installed it. Codes be gone.

I replaced the Cam Synchronizer, took away the cam code.

I replaced an idler pulley, I have them in stock now LOL with new bearings. I swap out bearings in older ones and have them laying around.

I have the title in front of me, I'm insuring it and tagging it for a month to drive and see what else might need to be replaced.

Then I'm parking it in my garage and the fun begins.

I'm going to wing it. I have no idea what I'll come up with.

The bigger question is what am I going to do with everything else.
