If you have noticed your windows 10 install crawling since the fall creators edition or you have software taking forever to load since the version 1709 update Microsoft issued a fix on 1.30.18
I don't think they will include it in regular updates since it is a scattered problem with only a few software packages (it affected my Mastercam I use for design and programming) but I would install this anyway even if you are not having problems.
Download and install it if you have windows 10, it is a good idea. There are 3 links, most of us are in the middle but there are links for 32 bit, 64 bit and server. Most of us are 64Bit.

Vista and 7 are different operating systems, so you can't be using both.

The question is , though, would it take longer to update or just wait for Windoze to do it's thing?

It is relatively quick not as quick as an ubuntu update but better than a lot of MS updates.

Technically, you can install two operating systems on one hard drive and have them co-exist.

You can install as many as you want, we have 5 on a service laptop in the back. 3 of them are win 7 and 2 are winXP.

If your windows machine is 10 pro then you have hyper-v built in but you have to enable it in windows AND have a processor capable of virtualization AND have it enabled in the bios.

Then you can create VM's and load all kinds of crap.

easier in linux. But that is the advanced class LOL.

I have 2 friends at work that still use Vista.

Yes you CAN.  Not really many people do.  Somehow I doubt that is what he meant, that he was running both.

I am using a Windows 8 and Linux Mint on a Dell Latitude I7 laptop. The Linux works better for controlling and accessing my server's which are Linux (media and print servers). Everything else is a chore to get anything accomplished so I drop back into windows 8.

Windows 10 is the Devil.

I know that isn't what he meant, but I thought I'd be funny and throw it out there anyway. I did that at one point.... by accident.

@Tsquare: Oh no no, Windows 8 is the devil. That just didn't need to exist.

10 isn't the worst OS I've ever used. My personal favorite was XP. I loved how you could customize it's appearance so much. Nice 3D graphics with rich colors (at least for the time). Now we have much more powerful computers and beautiful 4k displays at our disposal and our operating systems are flatter than roadkill with about two or three solid colors, no smooth gradients and everything is a box. *shakes head*

God, Windows 8 was horrific. 8.1 helped, but not until 10 was real help had. XP was good, 7 had it's uses. Vista? Whew...

Windows 8 was the entire reason I refused to buy my Dad a new computer. No way was I going to try and teach at the time my 80 year old Dad that system.

My favorite windows so far was the last release of win2K pro. I still run it on a small 1 axis cnc drilling machine I built about 12 years ago. Still running as stand alone no network connection.

About every third or so OS from Microsoft is a good stable OS. There was DOS 3, DOS 6/Windows 3.1, Windows 98, Windows XP, and Windows 8.1 (it pushed me to go back to Linux).

I've been using Ubuntu to manage my servers since the late XP early Vista days after I got an ancient virus in XP that sent the passwords from my FTP to china where they immediately loaded spam senders on every account I had accessed. I was only trying to book a hotel it was a drive by virus.

My customers are too important to me to take any more chances unless it's an emergency and I'm at work I use Ubuntu to connect to the servers.

I have used Linux for years - always hated how slow Windoze has always been and its horrible habit of doing upgrades when you switch on that take for ever.

At work I used to sign on at my desk and go for a coffee and chat while it did its stuff.

Then the organisation decided to go all Microsoft and ditch the excellent programmes we had for crap MS ones.

There is now only one program I very occasionally use which only runs under Windoze and that is because the dimwits programmed it to use the Lion browser ....

Don't even start me on Outlook etc - I only use Firefox & Thunderbird.

Thank you. I don't know much about computers, But I do know that was the last upgrade my system aloud me to do before the internet decided not to support my vista system. and it sucks. I can't get any updates. A perfect working laptop and I'am being forced to perchase a new one. No thanks!!!

No need to buy a new laptop - take it along to someone who can update the operating system for you.

There are plenty of references to upgrading the Studio 1537 to Windows 7 and from there to Windows 8.1 and finally to Windows 10

The procedure isn't straightforward and involves non Dell drivers I think - but nothing is impossible! Just not supported by Dell!

That would be great if I could do that, but to do this is beyond my knowledge of computers.
