Its not really an air freshener, but more of an air disinfectant I use. Since, in my case, the truck has mostly been sitting, its more about it not getting funky!

Normally I use Vanilla scented clips and put them in the defrost vents.

Same here, and in fact mine has been deodorizing/outgassing over the last six weeks by hanging in my garage and outdoors on breezy days. This is awesome as now it's about time to hang it in the Ranger.

Midnight Oil. I cannot remember who makes it. It comes in a little candle looking bottle. Lasts like a week and costs like $15. Thats what the wifey likes.

I can't stand air fresheners for the most part, though my truck stinks of something and used to be a massively smoked in vehicle, been airing all summer and cleaned all sorts, can't find source.

Baking Soda. Put some in your air vents (like a spoon full).
After that, CLEAN YOUR SEATS!!! This is probably where the bulk of the smell is coming from. I really like the Bissel cleaner. Wally World has then around $80 (the more expensive ones have an internal heater - just use hot water for the same effect). Its really scary what comes out of seat cushions. I'll probably be doing this (deep cleaning my seats) next weekend.

Done it :(

I used half a box of baking soda, all over the seats, all over the floor.
Had a chemical deodoriser in there, used a wet vac on the seats, plain water, dried, again with odour killing shampoo.

And yes, seats were filthy.

Have you tried OxyClean and or Borox. They both do marvelous things!

Borax? Yes.  If i could identify the source, i could work on it, but honestly i can't tell, i'm assuming it's everywhere :(  Probably headliner, so i'll need a steamer for that.

*IMO, these turdologist rated air fresheners deliver a response that's analogous to people wheo put a sticker on their back window showing a lifted 4X4 flattening that stick family and their dogs, and it has the words, "nobody cares about your stick family", lol!!!

Yup. https://www.20muleteamlaundry.com/
Been using Borax and OxyClean with my laundry for years now.. It seems what one doesn't get out the other does.

I do not use air fresheners in mine or my wife's trucks. My wife's 99 Explorer Sport was a smokers truck before we purchased it & stunk of cigarette smoke pretty bad. I used 2 spray bottles of Fe-breeze & sprayed the seats & the headliner several times to get rid of the smoke smell & replaced the carpet. Now you can not even tell the truck was ever smoked in.

I'm 'lucky' enough to have a plastic floor liner instead of carpet, but all of a sudden i'm reading your Febreeze in the headliner comment and thinking, oh yeah, that'd be fine to douse it with in lieu of a steam cleaner (actual high temp/pressure cleaner)

I've already 'carpet' cleaned the seats a couple of times, but i guess that doesn't exactly mean they're clean, just cleaner - still can't decide what to do with the whole seat situation (rips etc) i'd love those new covers, but at about $500, it's crazy and i'm still trying to come to terms with that cost.

Oh and i agree over air fresheners, i don't like or run them, if you need one, you either like the smell specifically, or something is dirty.

I owned recently a Dodge 1500 that had been smoked in.

Fabreeze makes me choke, it feels like it melts my lungs.

For 2 weeks every day when I parked it at work I used one of those squatty cans of industrial air spray, the kind that mounts in the automatic dispensers in public rest rooms. It had a mild pleasant fruit smell.

I sprayed till it was misty in the cab then closed the door.

At the end of the 2 weeks the odor was gone.

I have used fabreeze on carpet areas but I seem to have some sort of reaction to it.
