One question I get all the time is what tail lights will fit my ranger?
Since I don't have as much experience with the pre-93 rangers, I'll ask the community to help fill in the blanks.
If you have a 95-97, you will have what I call the 3 bulb tail lights. One bulb for brakes, one bulb for turn signals & one bulb for reverse lights. The brakes & turn signals will use a 3157 (dual brightness) bulb while the reverse lights will use a 3156 single brightness bulb. All year tail lights from 1993 to 2011 should physically fit, however 2001 and newer tail lights will have only 2 bulbs. More on this later...
Many people like the look of newer tail lights like the 2001-2005 & 2006-2011 on their 93-97 rangers, but find out that they have one too many bulbs for those housings. There are a couple ways to remedy this. One would be to add an additional bulb socket opening to the newer tail light housing & use all 3 of your bulbs.Another way would be to convert your tail light wiring to a 2 bulb setup by installing a trailer "T" connector & wiring your bulb sockets into those.
For 2001-2005 rangers, you will have what I call 2 bulb tail lights. One bulb is for brake lights & turn signals & one bulb for reverse lights. The brake/turn bulbs will be 3157 dual brightness and the reverse bulbs will be 3156 single brightness bulbs. The 2001-2005 tail lights will be a direct swap for 2006-2011 tail lights.
For 2006-2011 rangers, you will have the 2nd generation of 2 bulb tail lights. The layout & look is slightly different than the previous version, but use the same bulbs.
In a nutshell, you can swap several years of tail lights (1993 - 2011) but you may need to adapt your wiring or slightly modify your tail light housings.
