I have the 1.6 Eco in my '13 Fusion. It gets 37mpg on the highway and high 20's in town. It will drop to the high teens in sport mode with very aggressive driving. It will also do a quarter mile at 15 seconds flat at 92 mph. The 2.0L does much better.

I just hope we get something with at least 300hp....anything less would really make me consider not getting a new Ranger especially since the other small trucks have close to or over 300hp. Ford---Do the right thing and give the Ranger PLENTY of power !!!! I'd rather have too much (is there such a thing ??) than not enough.

I here there is some sort of ridiculous "weight to HP ratio" that the MFG's have to adhere to,precisely why the 98 to 2000 ranger was not offered with a 5.0 even though it was an explorer with a bed. It weighed less.

I would suspect your more likely to get the version in the explorer.

Story I read on that years back was that during the muscle car era, there was a loose agreement between manufacturers to not exceed a power to weight ratio of 1:10. This is precisely why the 1967 Firebird 400 put out 325HP in a (theoretically) 3,250# car yet the exact same engine in a GTO put out 350HP in the theoretically 3,500# car.

*Guess what I did for a few buddies in the high school parking lot that had Firebirds? Bend the little tab on the carb that restricted the 4s from fully opening and viola, instant 25 more HP in under a minute of time and you felt it.

You could only get the 5.0 in a 4 door Explorer, it was NOT available in the 2 door Sport. I tried to get one with a 5.0 back in 99 from the dealer I was working at & they told me you could only get the 5.0 in the 4 door.
