Hey guys and gals. I like hunting and fishing and anything shooting related and working on autos. I've been disabled for 12 years and can't do a lot of what I use to do very easily but since I'm not working I just take my time and do what I can,if I run into trouble I get help. Right now I've been getting testing equipment to see why the 4x4 isn't working on our 1999 Ranger,it'll be a learning experience since I've only had 4x4s a few years now and I'm old school (most of my training was in the 70s when there were carburetors and before computers ;) ) but I'm getting there :D.
Well, glad to be aboard and ready to meet new friends.

Love the avatar! Good to have you here, a few of us have had to graduate from old school so you should feel right at home.

Have a look around and if you need any help we are in and out all day :)

squirrelhunter, welcome to F-R from another "old school" mechanic. I started working in new car dealerships in the late 70's, but with my 2000 Ranger & my wife's 99 Explorer Sport I have gotten better at working with the computers, EFI, & figuring out the trouble codes.

I've gotten a litter better at figuring out the codes,I've had to do that on my 1999 F150 a few times. My first experience with computers was on my old 1985 F150 that had a feedback carburetor on it. It didn't run worth a crap and I couldn't get it to give me any codes so I got a carburetor and distributor for a 1977 F150 and did away with the computer,It ran good after that. Now to my surprise electronic ignition was an option that year so I got 1 with points so I wouldn't have to install the electronic ignition module and all used then and got a electronic upgrade for the points distributor that you just put in where the points was suppose to go. The only other thing I had to do was put a resistor in the  primary circuit.
