'92 XLT 5sp twin plug 147k. Would love for it to be able to get out of its own way, but other than having mice in activity wheels for an engine and gearing tall enough for a salt flat run, I dearly wish we still had teensy pickups being made. Neighbor who sold it to me did plenty for maintenance so only things I had to do was an exhaust system from here (fit perfectly) and totally replaced the ac (hey, it's Atlanta). FYI, the Ford compressors off the shelf are NOT worth using. About the only other thing out there to fit w/o mods is the Nippon Denso. First one did fail a seal, second one has been flawless.
DEARLY wish someone would make rectangular convex replacement mirrors for the right side (she has the “trailer” mirrors). Had to use a flat one and stick one of those little round things in the corner. Bleah.

Hi Hatter welcome to our board!

The mirror thing I'm sure someone else will address, if they don't post the question in the exterior section. As for the compressor... we have at least one member who is having excellent luck with the RockAuto 4 seasons replacement compressors, so much I'm going to buy one in the spring for one of my Rangers.
If you need any help with any of the site features don't hesitate to ask :)

Hello, Riverrag here.  Have been driving my 1996 Mazda B4000 (built by FORD noted on sticker under the hood) since 2002 (approximately 60,000 miles when purchased.) I currently have 313,500 miles on the old critter and I intend to see if I can make it to 500,000 sometime in the next 15-20 years.

Welcome to our forum, RiverRag!  Yes, the Mazda B series and the Ranger are twins!  Pretty much everything we talk about here applies to the Mazda as well.  With the right love and care, your truck will possibly see that 500,000 mark! :)

Hi. I bought this '96 ranger in '98 with 30k on it. It now has 200K and going strong. 4 cyl, 5 sp manual. In it's life, I have added a cruise control, brakes/brake lines, rear axles and bearings, plugs, coils, water pump, power steering pump, hoses, radiator, belts (timing belt and tensioner twice), virtually all PC sensors, air bags and clock spring (deer strike) and some body work. This spring I'll replace gas tank straps and fuel pump. This has been my most reliable ride I ever. I get most of my parts from Rock Auto which makes for cheap fixes. I'm an old person now so this will be my last ride (except for my '92 F350 Dually which pulls my RV).

Welcome to our forum, DaKonz!  Wow, you have owned that Ranger a LONG time, and it still looks new!  Glad to hear you save money on reliable parts from RockAuto!  Most of us here do too!  :)

Hello all. My name is Chris, in Lititz, PA and I have a 1995 Supercab XLT 3.0 automatic 2wd with 238,000 miles that I was gifted by my brother in law after he blew a head gasket and didn't want to put anymore money into it.  I replaced the passenger side head because it was cracked. I replaced the cam synchronizer, oxygen sensors, thermostat, spark plugs, plug wires, brake drums, some brake lines, brake pads, a bracket for the shifter, the dashboard light bulbs, the radiator support, the drivers door window regulator, still need to replace the passenger side window regulator, replaced the power steering hoses, water pump, egr valve, exterior drivers door handle, tailgate handle, door latch switches, window washer/wiper/turn signal switch. I need to replace the fuel filler neck as it leaks when the tank is full and is causing a vapor system fault code. Saturday it started running rough due to a cylinder 2 misfire and a bank 2 lean condition. The check engine light blinks when The throttle opens more than about 20%. The blower motor quit also. Horn doesn't work either. I'm sure I'm forgetting something as I had been working on it for about 2 years. I'm running Evans Waterless coolant, Mobil 1 high mileage oil. The Mobil 1 did clear up a noisy lifter but I still have either a lifter or something making a quieter tapping noise. I'm planning on replacing the lifters and pushrods. Planning on replacing the rocker arms with 5.0 Windsor arms for a bit more lift. Pic is after a test fit for the new radiator support. Left side middle leaf spring is broken, I have a new one just need cooperative weather to fix it.

Cool welcome to F-R you must enjoy working on it because you have repaired a LOT but at almost 1/4 million miles it is to be expected.

My first thought is that both heads probably had issues, BUT your misfire is on the head you replaced and bank 2 is driver side on a 3.0. Bet the codes are not related you PROBABLY have a bad o sensor on bank 2 but I would run a compression check on bank 1 to see if it was something to do with the head replacement or maybe you got a bad head.

The flashing check engine light I'll have to look in to. What are you using to pull the codes?

I signed up on this site some time ago but never actually introduced myself. I am also on the older FRF site under the same name and I've had my ranger since 2008. It's an 03 3.0 edge 2wd . This is the o my picture I have right now of my truck and it's the most recent before I did a tear down of the engine

Nice truck, MdubG! I like the way you put the lights down the length of your running boards. Kind of like the semi-trcuk trailer look! :-)

Thanks. Got them at harbor freight and after hooking them up with the headlights I changed out the bulbs for LEDs so there wouldn't be too much draw when all the light are on

Just got done updating myself on this thread
Welcome everyone!
My name is Jamie, my usernames are 410Fortune and 410Customs
You can find me on Ford Ranger, Explorer, Diesel, heavy equipment, snowmobile, atv/utv forums and more. I do anything related to off road, on the snow, and related to homesteading. I live to turn wrenches.
I have built countless Ford Explorers and Rangers and crushed  (recycled) many many more.

I live in North Idaho
I fly a desk for a living, I design elevators for buildings including the worlds tallest towers. I am also a Ford Ranger freakazoid I live and breathe these trucks as I have been daily driving a 88 BII for 20+ years now. I have a customs shop at my house, we build off road vehicles, mostly Ford RBV. I specialize in drivetrain conversions and wiring, but I also do suspensions, interiors, and full custom trucks.
I post most of my projects right here on FR's.com

We re located from the high mountains of Colorado to North Idaho back in Jan of 2018. I posted a v8 ranger we built for sale on the local craigslist (Spokane) and these dudes saw the truck and invited me to come over to this forum. I have been on many Ranger forums over the years, mostly I moderate on Explorer4x4.com because I have been posting on there since the late 90's but now I moderate here as well.
I am honored to be a part of this tight knit group, so glad to see so many new members. This forum is growing, lets make it the best Ranger forum on the web!
Eat sleep drink think rangers, repeat

Right now I am building:
1988 Bronco II
2007 Toyota FJ cruiser
1997 F350 SRW CCFB 7.3 shop truck
2001 Excursion 7.3 lifted family hauler
2000 E350 7.3 Van going 4x4 (Dana 50 TTB conversion with coils!)
2007 Ranger goes 5.0 and full custom everything
1998 Ranger V8 4x4 (for sale)
1998 Ranger from 3.0 to 4.0
2001 Sport trac going 5.0 and 5 speed

That about covers the current truck projects :)

Jamie, I've gotten to know you over the last several months, but this post spawns a few questions from me (and this is simple curiosity; nothing more):

1) What is "homesteading"?
2) What about Northern Idaho that prompted you to move there... or what about Colorado that made you want to leave?
3) WHY did you make the move in JANUARY?  It was 10 degrees here in Southern Indiana when I left for work this morning.  I can't imagine moving in this kind of weather!
4) Was the home and shop already there, or did you have to build it when you moved to the area?

Forgive my intrusive nosiness, but inquiring minds want to know! :-)

Homesteading = living off grid, growing your own food, generate your own power, raise kids and animals away from modern Society

North Idaho has lots of wilderness and lots of water, the forest up here is like home for me. Im a boy scout avid off road and snow machine freak so I love the outdoors and anything to do with living in it.

Im a native of Colorado, never thought I would leave. BUT Colorado has become alot like California lately, and the economy was booming with the population growth. We lived at 9000' in order to be close enough to the city to run business, but far enough away to be in the forest and mountains and get lots of snow. My 10 year old son was born with some heart defects and living at 9000' can cause him long term issues, so we decided it was time to go lower. Living in the forest at the top of a mountain during a 15 year drought was getting old...the forest is going to burn, not if but when. Colorado has a few lakes and rivers, but they are all crowded now. So we wanted to live on a river or lake....well we found everything we were after here in North Idaho and THEN SOME. Our house in CO we bought from the bank as a foreclosure, spent 8 years completely re modeling it (My wife has a flooring company and loves to flip houses/remodel...im a handy man so we remodel everything) House was 5600 sq ft....two residences. We bought low and sold HIGH, which allowed us to re locate. We moved 4 families in total 1800 miles......... My step son and his wife and daughter live with us, my other step son and his wife and son live near us in town and my parents also sold their CO home and bought a summer home up here...

We moved in Jan because our   CO house sold in December!! What can ya do?

We had an offer on this place here in ID already in place contingent upin our sale. Took about 3 months to sell our CO house...we were really thrilled when it sold, we could have waited until spring and got more for th house but money is not everything.

The place here in Idaho was already built, it is a HUGE shop, with attached guest cabin and house...... we are already building and adding on, adding another cabin, a large addition to the cabin, and planning to build another huge shop......
This place was built originally in the 90's then they added the shop and house in 2014....we wanted something with large shop, living area for two families and on the water with some land, away from neighbors. We found it!
2 mile driveway, completely off grid (state of the art system) only 10 miles from town, in the snow belt (lots of snow), we have 1600' of river frontage, flowing water everywhere around us and 48,000 acres of un touched wilderness out my back door....all private, un touched land back here :)
great way to raise some future scout off grid mechanics :)

A wise friend of mine once told me "You drive up to North Idaho from Colorado and you will throw rocks at CO" that is the truth........ it was either here or Alaska.....and Alaska is EXPENSIVE

Thanks for that post, Jamie!  It helps to understand circumstances and reasons when someone "does it their own way".  I would probably be interested in doing something like that, but age and health get in the way of the more adventurous ways of life.  You obviously love the homesteading thing, Lord knows I would love to be off the grid and more in control of my life. :-)

Ill be 47 next month...there is still time!! A move like this was 10 years in the making.....working towards having the equipment and support and abilities to live like this.
We cut our cost of living by 2/3 moving here......now we are investing in our retirement (buying up rentals in town)
My career I have been working from home since 2005 so anywhere there is internet I can live and still draw my elevators.
Wife is still running her carpet business in Denver from here in Idaho
Life is good! You get out of it what you put into it!

I just turned 64 two weeks ago.  Every joint in my body hurts most of the time, I have respiratory problems... and I am pretty broke.  LOL  I don't think it is in the cards for me to embark on an adventure like that... it would probably kill me!

or make you stronger
we are not roughing it by any means
the air is clear the water is crystal clear and usually all I hear is water running & wildlife outside, all you smell is cedars.....

the hard part can be getting in and out in the winter, but there are machines to fix that or you can move to AZ in the winter like everyone else
compared to where I came from this road is flat, its warm in the winter (20-30 degrees with snow is warm to me, I do not miss the wind), and the snow falls straight down and carries moisture!
The things to get used to were abundance of oxygen, mold and mildew, gas filler necks and trailer hitches rust here, huge trees and huge animals
When we hit our late 60's or 70's the wife and I plan to let the kids run this place and we will head to a cabin at the lake and RV all over Alaska :)
