Have had the compact Rangers since 1986, first one was a New 4X4 LWB 4 cyl 5 speed, next came a 1990 4X4 LWB V6 5 speed that I still have as a farm vehicle 179K, then a new 2003 4X4 LWB V6 Auto which was plagued with drive line problems from about 50K, both front hubs, drive shaft universals, electrical problems, sold it at 80K, a new 2004 4X4 extended cab V6 auto LWB great truck with 119k miles and finally a 1984 4X4 V6 farm vehicle bought used. I always liked the small Ranger platform as well as its cousin the Bronco ll. Wish ford would of kept the small format and the reasonable price of the old model.

You and about most of the world, welcome to F-R!

I wish they would have offered multiple engine options in the new one. Granted things do cost that much now days and it is right up there in styling IMO with modern vehicles but one motor? C'mon they were not listening to the Ranger base when they decided that. If they offered a V6 and a Diesel along with the 4 cyl I think it would have lit us up more.

As I understood , when they stopped the Ranger here they kept it in other parts of the world and I read it was offered with a diesel, am I correct??  I also have 4 Bronco ll, a '85, '86 & an 88, one with only 45K miles, by far the best SUV I have ever owned..

Yes the Ranger was offered with a diesel and a turbo diesel in other markets. I had NA diesel when I was in Iraq and it was a dog performance wise. In Afghanistan I had a turbo diesel 4x4 that got 30+ MPG and had better acceleration than my 2wd 3.0L.
