Tonight I bought an 03 Escape 3.0 AWD 130,00 miles. Pretty clean car. Add says plugged cats $900 obo. The car was 2 streets down from my house so I go take look. Car runs like   wont rev past 2000 rpm. When driving it it has no power. With the condition that car is in I decided to go the obo route and offer the guy $350 cash. He says ok. How fucked am I on this? Does anyone have any experience with an Escape with the 3.0?

check fuel pressure
Check any computer codes
After that checks out I would drop the cats or exhaust and see how it runs

As to the dislikes of the neighbors I cut the exhaust off. It now revs till the stutter box kicks in. I removed the 2 pre cats not that bad of a job really. The rear cat seems to check out the front cat is busted loose and plugged the cat up. So now I will change the front cat eliminate the main cat under the car put a muffler and tailpipe on it and new set off plugs. I think the ones in it are what the ones FoMoCo installed at the factory. It has plenty of power after I cut the exhaust off. When I drove it home it would barely run after cutting the exhaust off it moves pretty good for what it is.

I had the catalyst inside a cat come loose from the housing,   PITA to figure out, truck ran perfectly until you would get on the gas and climb a hill. Seems the chunk of material was just laying in the housing until the right amount of pressure and incline then it would clog up the outlet and the truck would sputter sputter and usually recover.
Took me months to figure that out, this was before cat monitors, no codes, fuel pressure checked out, etc etc
When I finally figured it out I was thrilled.

Sounds like you got yourself a winner! replace a cat, tune it up, clean it up and flip it or economy daily driver!!

I only have two things to say about the escape:
1. There is no trans dipstick
2. I am super glad they did not call it "Bronco III"

Changing the battery takes some time too, look at where it is.
