Plan on painint the underside of my bed and entire frame this weekend since I have everything apart on the truck.

Got me thinking to possibly install a trailer hitch.  I've yet to pull anything honestly, so not sure if I am getting it just to get it type of deal.... anyways.  I see that you can get a square trailer hitch light that acts like a brake light, which is nice.

Problem I keep reading about is when you use your turn signal the trailer hitch light blinks.  Either with left or right turn signal functions.  I guess this is a common gripe about not necessary the light but how the vehicle is wired/lack of separate brake circuit.

Just wanted to confirm if anyone on here has such a light and if that is the case.  If it is, I will probably pass on this entire thing, but if not then it might be nice to have another brake light below.

Seemed to have found my answer:

Is designed to cancel out the turn signal.

Thanks,
-Nigel

Looks cool but needs a LED 1157 :)

Cheap too, wouldn't fit my trailer hitch I have one of those smaller ones unfortunately.

They claim it's the model that doesn't blink but if you find one you like better and it does blink you could run a wire from your 3rd brake light back to the high side of the light.

Yeah, you wouldn't wire it to the corner brake lights, but to the high level brake light instead.

if you have 2bulb tails, it will probably blink with turns. i had one on my truck (3 bulb tails) and had no issue.
you could tap your 3rd brake light wires & run them down to the trailer hitch to connect to the hitch light.

I think I am going to ax this idea. In the 6+ years of owning the truck I have yet to pull a trailer. Then now looking at things.

Curt trailer = $121
3rd brake light = $15
replace bulb to LED = $10

So in all reality paying $180 to have a trailer hitch light...lol I don't even own a trailer..hahah

Guess I'll just stick to original plan and painting the frame/bed this weekend so I can finally get the damn truck back together and drive it again.

To answer the original question, though...as long as you buy the right one (there are two part numbers, one has an "E" on the end I think), it'll have the appropriate diode to plug into your four-way flat trailer plug and not blink with the directionals.

Rather than run a wire from the third brake light, I bought one of those off the shelf at WalMart and used some of the guts (diode, four-way-flat plug) to wire up the third brake light on my cap.

Worth $15 to me not to have to run a wire from the cab to the back of the truck, and have a solution with no cutting of factory wiring at all.
