I would assume quite a bit from the 90-94 Explorer should crossover depending on what it is you're looking for.

I always ask the eye rolling question of what it is you're going to use the truck for to feel out what a person has in mind before throwing a million suggestions out there at them which may be of no interest whatsoever but.. There's ALWAYS the usual bolt-on's of course but what matters is the use, at least in my world. hahah

Hey, speaking of "at work"... were you able to get the parts you need for the parking assist mod, or did you decide otherwise?

AFAIK the pre 92 ranger has more in common with the Bronco II than anything else.

The auto dimming mirror should work fine. It only has 5 wires:

* 12v Constant power (always hot)
* 12v Hot in run
* Chassis ground
* Reverse light signal
* White/Pink wire is to control the auto headlamps and is NOT used for the mirror.

Your truck should have all these available in the dash. You will have to consult a wiring diagram to find them as they may not be the same colors as the 1995 and up.

Or use the auto dimming mirror out of a CV instead. Three wires and a compass instead of auto headlights (ie, no dead button on mirror), and they're a $2 Upull item that is pretty common.

Great idea, Bill! Don't know why I didn't think of that first, as my son has a CV mirror in his Ranger.

I've got a few of the CV mirrors in my inventory, cheap to have around for any possible experiment. Before opting to go with the Explorer mirror (I didn't want to use an OHC for temp/compass and an indoor grow light) I toyed with the idea of experimenting with the lighting module out of a CV or something else for the purpose of auto headlamps but settled on the Explorer mirror. Looking back that was kind of a mistake as the consistency/reliability of that particular mirror (I've tested three so far) for auto headlamps isn't there and the available procedure for adjusting when the auto lamps come on does not work. And if one thinks this can be cured by reducing the hole size around that photocell for the auto lamps, think again. Been there, tried that. :-/

My Explorer mirror does an "okay" job controlling my auto lamps. The slider control rarely allows me to actually turn off the auto lamp function. I have another one in my parts stash, just haven't bothered to check it out yet.

I've been suspicious for awhile now as to the possibility that the photocell performance degrades with time, especially since these mirrors almost always will come from elder vehicles at the end of the food chain and thus, probably spent a lot of days anywhere other than a covered shelter.

Edit: Said another way as far as performance goes, I find it hard to believe that a customer would accept the mediocre auto headlamp performance of this mirror in any new vehicle.

I would agree that the photocell degrades over time. I would like to find a NOS Expo mirror to replace mine with. Most likely would be quite pricey, though.

Back in 2000, I bought a late production 1997 Explorer XLT. Loved that vehicle! I don't recall having these issues with it then (~3 years old), so that may be another clue to verify your suspicions.

CV = Crown Victoria. You may also see references to GM, which is Grand Marquis.
